There were a few things I liked, mainly the guest speaker (I was tempted to ask for his autograph but pulled away, though I had already been labeled a nerd by everyone) and about two of the 1 hour missions.

There were a plethora of things I hated, mainly my roommates, the hab, the beds, the food, the briefings, the other missions (especially EDM), the activities, and the fact that they treated us all like 10-year-olds.

Being a nerd at camp is normal!

I'm sorry that you disliked so much of camp its kind of an anomoly around here. I hope you were at least able to take something good home with you!

im sorry... ive been multiple times and i have to admit, before i got used to things, i had some problems with adjusting. i hope that you wont let this trip colour your view of camp. it gets a lot better once you know what you're doing! briefings can get old, but you learn something new each time you go. the hab you just have to love cause its the hab. once again, you learn how to do things...which bathrooms to use, which beds to take, which lockers to claim, etc. the food is camp food. lol. you learn to become immune. over trips, you learn what to get and what to hoard. the vending machines are a blessing. take advantage of them! depending on which counselor you get is how you get treated. im sorry that you were treated that way, but not everyone gets treated/treats that way. im sorry you didnt have the greatest time, but i hope you'll try it again. it really is awesome! and like lyn said, i hope you took something from it. ive always learned something while im there. and the majourity of the time, its about myself, not space.

The first time i went to camp i was incredibly homesick and i just wanted to go home. Strangly enough i didnt realize how much fun i had until after i had left. I did the same thing with AC a couple years later so i can see where you may not have enjoyed some parts of camp.

i'm sorry that you didn't have that much fun. me first to times were pretty bad, my teams were horrible and i felt a lot like you, but then i jsut kept going back and to got better, you more get use to camp, and then you can look at the better things. now that you've gone once you can go to alumni camps that there you are treated a lot better, because everyone has already gone, and you it's just all around more fun.

- Is it true that they have food for vegetarians, or do they just tell you to take the meat out of your burger, etc.?
yes. at lunch and dinner they have salads, uncrustables, and veggie burgers.
Sorry for being very general, but what do you do at ASA? Could someone explain in a few words about briefings, missions, Area 51, etc.?
ok at sapce camp u have many briefings and lectures. in the ASA u basically learn about everything to do with space. briefings are usually in a dark room with a projector and two counselors telling you about space history. they usually crack jokes to make it somewhat more interesting. MIssions last for i think about an hour and a half. it depends what part your in but to me the 3 top jobs are CAPCOM, mission specialist 1, 2, or 3, and pilot. Each mission is diferent and if u go two years in a row you will most likely have 4 diferent missions in diferent space shuttles. you are either in the sapceship, the iss, or on earth. ive never been in the space station but ive heard it isnt that exciting. Area 51 is in area in nevada where the government tests top secret projects that the rest of the world (not even the president) knows about. if you walk up to the gate which is 5 miles away from the actual site so the guard doesnt even see anything they will ask you to leave. in camp its this place u cant see in because of the highv walls and u basically do mission type things.
Yes or no on cellphones? If I take one I plan on keeping it in my locker all day and perhaps take it out at night to call home a few times.
if they catch you with your cell they will take it away from you for the whole trip.
What does a pilot do? Hehe I signed up for that track only b/c I didn't want to scuba (I can hardly swim )
you fly the ship. ok you most liely didnt know that you have a script that you read from. yes a script taht sits on your lap and when the clock strikes a certain minuete you read your line or press a button. cammander and pilot sit next to eachother and basically fix problems. pilot is the biggest job in the mission.
Do you really get college credit?
if you are in advanced academy you will get one hour of college credit. anything before advanced will give you nothing.

Yeah. She's been back from camp already for ages... Sadly, we never found out if she had fun or not. :(

However, i wouldnt suggest using it at all if you're up in corporate. If you got up the stairs just leave it in your pocket you're better off that way.

To be fair, Lyn, by the third day at X-Mas, noneof us cared what corporate thought of us.
