I wish I could have gone to Space Camp when they where using the three ring binder. They now pass out a CD-ROM version of Thorttle up when you grad. I still like the book better becuase you can take it any where and not worry about not having a computer. Plus the book you can make changes in it. They should have books with larger displays of the controls of the orbiter, plus controls that the MSs use. When my team was doing our EDM both I and the other MS was lost to where the controls to the on the MS station. The pilot had to do it for use while we got ready for our EVA.

Well the old larger books whether they be spiral or 3 ring binders would have been perfect for that. The pages were larger so diagrams could have been larger plus the books were thicker as well so you had more pages to work with.

In '00 we were given soft leather briefcases with the SA emblem embroidered on one side. It was very nice, with a 3-ring binder spine inside. I use it to hold enlarged diagrams of the cockpit panels from _The Space Shuttle Operator's Manual_ that I can spread out each night for the team to review. It's also good to have a copy of the checklists to review at the same time.

_Throttle Up!_ is great, I often grab it for quick facts. So it's just a CD now? That's a pity, I think books are a better souvenir.

Yeah...I heard they give those out at Adult ASA...One of the additional reasons I want to go is to get one of those!

I hope they still do, they're really nice. Again, this was Adult SA, just the weekend session, which was even more impressive!

The aim, of course, is to get you to come back, and in my case, it's served its purpose! Not that I needed the extra incentive...

I know when Kemara went 2 years ago they were still giving them out and i think she said they were last year too but i could be mistaken.

This year's Christmas camp books where better than last year. They had more data and they also had more notes about each track's programs. Which is nice because if a MS is talking about SUBA you might feel like a fool. But the panels are still to darn small. They also have a memorial to the Columbia seven on the last page. They have made some added some people to the staff page but they left Joel in.

I'm new here (but have been looking at this site for a while)...
I went to Space Academy level 1 in the late 80s or early 90s, I forget the year. I'm feeling nostalgic and would love to buy my old spiral bound manual! I lost it somewhere, somewhen, and would really love to read it again. It had an all-white plastic-y cover, spiral bound with lots of info on space flight, history, shuttle mechanics, etc. I remember the tabs having "1.0, 2.0, 3.0" etc on it.
Was wondering if anyone knew where I could pick up a new or used copy? Would anyone be willing to sell theirs?

I know it's a long shot, but thought I'd ask anyway.

I see them from time to time on ebay its probably your best bet. Just type in space camp or space academy and see what comes up. I still have mine from 93 but wont part with it.

Of course, if you went in the very late 80s or very early 90s, you probably had a spiral-bound book with a white cover with the Space Academy logo on it.

While the cover may not be the same, the content of the book more-or-less is.

Well i know the space camp book in 91 and the academy book in 93 were more or less the same info inside with some updates and a few new aditions and others removed. Both those years were white spiral bound books still have both of mine as well as my Ac book in 96 abnd my ASA book from 98. I got a look at the new books last week. Though they are a definate improvement over the photocopied pages they are still rather pathetic looking.

Back to the briefcases, they were still being given out at Adult Space Academy (weekend program) as late as the session I went to in September of last year.

I still think the clipboard was the best "book" that camp ever gave me.
It's all that you could ask for in an alumni camp- you could write your own book!

Yeah... I have soo many notes. Dan, i think you're eating stuff with the orange stickers today...

My notepad is full! Completely full! I think I have three pages in the back that are blank, and only because I saved them in case I needed to use them for something later on. I have a stack of loose leaf paper with notes on them too... I should probably go back and read those again someday. We also got a CD-R with all the PowerPoint presentations from the week. Highly useful information! (Where I will ever use it, I have no idea, but it is good to have all the same. The staff at the science centre tend to borrow it every now and again.)
