Ideas for Hab 1 logo design?

Ideas for Hab 1 logo design?
Since we all seem to be agreed that some form of a logo would be nice (although we've yet to agree on the form it will take) I thought we could discuss design ideas here? What should it include? Obviously, the web address: www.hab1.com and maybe "Where Space Campers interact". Would it have a space station since that's what the real Hab represents or maybe several modules branching from a central hub to symbolize how the internet connects us all? If anyone wants to get out the colored pencils, maybe Vincent could let us post our ideas for popular vote. Suggestions?

design
how about a large circle poster like 3ft by 3ft square but the emblem would be like a circle and the circle would be the "mission patch"

Actually any of those ideas sound good. We keep saying we're going to do this contest but noone is doing it maybe we need to get vincent to make an official announcement of the contest.

Let me rephrase that.....
Maybe I should've been clearer....What do you think the Hab1 logo should *look* like, (as in should it have a space station, ect.) not, what *form* should it take (poster, patch, t-shirt). Is that easier to understand?

poster
sorry
um, i think the patch should look like a space station... i would say the actual hab 1 in abstract (like not a picture but a drawling) looking at the end (parking lot) but at an angle so part of the side can be seen... if ussrc would let us i would keep the space camp emblem right where it really is... ill try and draw a pic so everyone gets a better picture (sorry bout the pun)

Well, it's not they won't *let* you...
you *could* use their logos...I personally am just very cautious about what I do with the logos...
...I would not feel comfortable (read: legally safe) to put the logo on any form of merchandise, etc.
...and I believe to license the logo costs $15,000 (I think that's what it was the last time I checked) so that is, needless to say, beyond my reach...

If its a one time thing (or a few) of the poster at USSRC for us to sign... would they work with us do you think?

I think they would probably work with us if we talked to them. And i'm sure atleast some of the counselors would.

Vincent, do you mean us using the Space Camp logo would be a problem? I was thinking of us coming up with our own design, although I'm not sure about a copyright on the name U.S. Space Camp. This is just for us, so we can like have a logo that we create with "HAB1- Where Spacecampers Interact. Blast off to www.hab1.com. "
And as for the idea of us all signing one of the posters from the gift shop..... My team signed a 20th Anniversary poster for our counselors last year. There were two problems with it. 1. You couldn't see what we wrote because there's no white space on that poster. It's all covered with the design. And 2. We had to write on the margins (very tiny) so as not to obscure the design.
So I'd suggest we come up with our own thing on a huge piece of posterboard, send it to one of the counselors (Smiley maybe) and see if they can get it hung up in the Hab for us. They already have several team patches framed there. When you go to Camp, ask them to let you sign the poster. I don't think they'd have a problem with a bunch of alumni like us promoting a site that promotes Camp.

No, no...what I mean is...for something like this, I'd really be surprised if they had a problem with it...
At the same time, there was talk on another thread about T-shirts and such...that they *might* have a problem with, but the might not. With regard to that, however, I would not want to push my luck!

How about this?
Even if we did our own t-shirts, there shouldn't be a problem as long as we use our own logo. www.cafepress.com puts your logo on all kinds of stuff...t-shirts, mugs, bags that you can sell to other people. I'm very into Irish Step dancing and know several people who have created their own designs and sold them on t-shirts this way. Maybe we should check it out.
I wish we could get with the Camp people to develop an alumni t-shirt that could be sold at the USSRC. It could be gray with a logo on the left chest and the back would say "Keeping the Dream Alive" in blue. Basically the same as the ASA shirts they give you, but with an alumni logo. I'd love that.

I definately like the alumni t-shirt design ofcourse to incorporate any space camp logo into it would require space camps permission. Designing a hab 1 logo shouldnt be a problem whether its just for a poster or whether we take it beyond that.

Maybe we could get them to start an alumni club or something. Maybe merchandise only available to alumni. Ok that might be pushing it but you never know.

yeah
i could see ussrc doing something like that because its a whole new market... if ussrc ran or we ran some sort of allumni program (i know we have all of hab 1) don't get me wrong... hab1 could become the center of the group but something where teams could get together or have a link to space camps offices for information or allumni programs, shirts, etc... that would be awsome...

Well we might be thinking a little big here but its possible you never know. Its amazing how the idea of having something for people to sign at camp has grown to this.

well , yeah really... but as far as an allumni association... i think hab1 would be the perfect core... all we'd need is a legal association with the ussrc... and the space camp foundation...

I like the idea of an alumni association...hadn't thought of that. We could do fund-raisers or donations for Space Camp. Goodness knows the Hab could use new mattresses!
Who do we talk to?

Well unfortunately that ussualy means money. Space Camp does have copyrights on the name. Thats why when all the equipment and the astronaut hall of fame were bought and they started using it for a camp they didnt use the name Space Camp because they didn't pay for the right to use the name. In some ways vincent is right he's lucky that space camp has let him use the logos and stuff on here and its probably ok because its not making money off of it in anyway.

but if we were the core group and merchendise went through SCF then they could regulate money, etc... they'd make more money and get many more interested on returning as adults... i think they'd like the idea...
