Color Weeks
Okay, this is showing my Space Camp age, but how many here remember Red Week and Blue Week?

No? Oh my... I am old
You should read your old Application guides more closely
Back in the day, there used to be a session running Sunday
through Friday (Red Week) and Wednesday through Monday (Blue Week). This was true for Space Camp and Space Academy, Level I only.
I know it lasted until at least 1990. After that, only one session per week.
It was pretty hectic at times because you'd be half way through your session (if you were on Red Week, like I was for Space Camp) and on Wednesday a whole new Registration process and new cadets came in. Very interesting.
I believe this started the different colored shirts. Red Space Camp shirt (collar and sleves) for Red Week and Blue Space Camp Shirt (again, collar and sleves) for Blue Week. Later, as Red/Blue Weeks were disbanded - Space Camp got the Red shirts and Space Academy got the blue shirts.
I don't know what they are today because I've not been in like... 11 years... *sigh*
Guess I really am out of touch

Finnally someone older than me. I went to space camp on my first trip in July of 91. I'd never heard of the color weeks either but they did something similar at ASA in the summer of 98. My team came on wednesday and left on monday and some other teams came on sunday. It was nice to have the hab to ourselves friday night and all of saturday and best part was no lines for the showers. It wasnt too bad though. They didnt refer to it as red and blue weeks though but it was the same isea.

You know, I think I remember seeing that they did go back to the off weeks for a year but I also remember they couldn't get their program offerings in order either. Man, I was madder than heck when they canceled Adult Academy, Level II but at least its back in some form...

Well the ASA program is pretty good. I've only been to the youth one but know someone who's been to the adult one and says its great. I wish they had kept the Academy Level 2 program with the 8 day sessions and 12 and 24 hour EDM's

It would have been nice of them to keep it. I wonder why it was changed? Other than for budget reasons. I'm just glad they offer Adult advanced now because sometimes they did and sometimes they didn't - one never knew from year to year.

I think after Ed Buckbee left around 96 they started changing the programs some. That year they still had Academy Level 2 but the next year it was changed to ASA. I remember when i went in 96 they had started expanding their programs. I was at Aviation challenge that year and that was the first year they had 3 Ac programs instead of 2. Although the names seemed a little messed up The programs were called Basic, then their was a middle one i dont remember the name of then the hightest one was called intermediate. I always thought intermediate would be in the middle. But the following year in 97 Academy Level 2 became ASA and the AC names became Mach 1,2, and 3.

I'll have to check my application programs when I get off work.
I thought there was another level. Basic, Intermediate and Advanced?
I'll look.

Actuallt intermediate was the highest program.l But their was 1 program in between i just cant remember what it was called. I know intermediate was highest because i was old enough to Go to academy Level 2 when i went to AC intermediate. Unfortunately i couldnt afford Academy Level 2 that year.

Ah thats right i thought basic was the youngest one but now i remember. Those names seemed confusing youd think basic would be first and intermediate in the middle. But i was their that first summer they had primary i was at intermediate that year.

I didn't understand it either. I acually liked Primary, Basic and Intermediate as names.. Mach I,II, III didn't sit right but then again I really didn't care much about the AC programs than I did about the Space programs.

Well when i went to AC i thought i'd be totally lost. I had some intrest in military avaition but not as much as space exploration. The only reason i went in the first place was i couldnt afford to go to Academy Level 2 that year. But i went and i loved every minute of it and learned alot.
