I think space tourism is fine but i think it should be done by privagte industry. I don't think the iss is an apropriate place to send tourists.

Yeah, you're right. I don't want Lance Bass to go up there! I guess I just feel bad that the people with the money get to go up and the rest of us can't. I'm too selfish!

Welli dont like the fact that they charge 20 million dollars per trip either but they are going to do what they want to do. The way i see it though Russia has no right to send tourist to the ISS. Yes Russia is our partner in the station butthey have caused more problems than solutions with the construction. If they want to send up tourist let them go up on a soyuz and orbit earth for a while. Sure its cramped but it does have an orbital module up front to the crew can get out of the seats. The tourists don't need to be sent to the iss. The Iss crew have enough on their hands without the extra concern over a tourist. Verry little can be done on the iss now because of the limited number of crew it can support. We dont need someone whos their as a sight seer to get in the way. Just my two cents.

Yes, you're right. If NASA is against it, then so am I. The ISS partly belongs to the U.S. and ESA, and Russia shouldn't have other people up there. I think I heard somewhere that Russia was paying the U.S. for being able to have tourists up there, but it still seems wrong.

Wow, that's cool! So what were you at ASA? I was payload specialist (not my first choice but that's another story). As it turns out, I liked it a lot. I wouldn't have changed anything!

Every year i went to space camp programs i managed to be a pilot or commander. At Camp and Academy it was because i knew my space history stuff when they gave us a quiz to determine mission positions. At camp i was pilot, at academy commander and SSO. So when i went to ASA i chose pilot track. I really wanted to be commander but my counselor assigned me to the pilot position on the orbiter. But i did get to be flight director in mocr.

well im not all for space tourism but hey its a good idea. but now i can just see lance bass tripping over some cable then landing on a button which would cause the iss to plummet to earth but hey its just a though. our guest speaker was ithink the president of space camp not to sur though. plus one thing i dont get with all the advances in science and what we're all capable of space travel wise i still dont see why more and more kids arent interested in space i mean its our future its what defines us computers theyre okay athletic sure fine bash your brain in and hey we'll give you 8 million but space is the future pretty soon were gonna run out of space and were gonna have to turn to somewhere else hey just look at china with its billlions of peope

I think alot of the lack on interest has to do with the fact that the space program gets so little coverage these days. Most kids get verry little exposure to it on TV or in school. I was born in the late 70s and i'm old enough to remember when the shuttle was in its hay day. Back then the networks still covered launches amd it was more than 3 minutes woth of coverage. Back then the news articles about shuttle missions were on the front page and had a big article on them. Now your lucky if a launch gets 3 minutes on CNN and a paragraph with a black and white photo in the paper. I think that has alot to do with the fact that kids today dont get interested in space anymore. It's become so common place most people dont care any more.

Yeah, I know! It's like no one cares about space since the Mercury and Apollo programs are over. It was popular and cool back then, and now you're a dork if you like it. At least that's my experience. It's sad that the Space Camp program in Florida is closing! If more people just went to it in the first place, then they would get hooked and go back every year, I'm sure!!!

i think we should write to all our local networks and ask them if they could broadcast shuttle launches and live footage on the iss (atthe very least when lance bass is there) we can use him to adv ertise space exploration and its many advatages

I didnt get the chance to read the article but according to space.com lance bass going to space is still looking in doubt. And i wouldnt be suprised if the networks did give some coverage of him going to space but its for the wrong reason and they wouldnt pay much attention to the people who spent years training to fly into space. All the attention would be on the guy from nstink.

Like i said before though the iss wont be whats getting alot of publicity. You know the only thing the media will care about is Lance Bass and how much he paid compared to how much he'll probably make off of it.

I just read on space.com that NASA is helping to train Lance Bass in case the Russians decide to take him up! That mission is scheduled for October 28, I think. That's not a lot of training!

song...

Post by M »

When I went to camp there was a kid that wouldn't shower. Our counselor tried to talk to him alone in the musuem but the kid wouldn't. So Brent(the counselor) starts belting out( with all the musuem tourists watching) "take a bath, WASH YOURSELF! Take a bath, Show me watch your washing with!" (To the tune "shake that ass, watch yourself") It was really funny... the rest of the week all he did was make up songs about smelly people...
Did anyone go to camp August 3-9 2002?
