We callsigned her "Syndrome," which meant nothing to me at the time. She's sweet and evil all at the same time. I adore her.
If you're lucky, she'll give you "The Look."

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!
Fun little video but that's not Hab1. Is that the Aviation Challenge dorm (Hab3?). I'm guessing they did it there because they wanted to show the smallest lockers and encourage people to pack light. The two things missing from the video (and the official packing list) are a camera and a small bag or pack to tote your gear around. Seems like those things are pretty much required (more so than bug spray except maybe for the AC folks) and I've always wondered why they were left out.

I wondered about that, as I haven't been to SC since 2014 and was wondering if they totally remodeled the rooms in HAB1...gt0163c wrote:Fun little video but that's not Hab1. Is that the Aviation Challenge dorm (Hab3?).

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!
I heard they slapped some fresh paint around in Hab1. AC is barracks-style, they probably have to make their bed in the morning.
Bug spray is a good one to add to the list. Zika will shrink your brain, from what I've heard.
A robe and flip flops, power strip, duct tape, garotte, bandana, hi-tech work gloves, sunglasses, hat, two small padlocks, modest swim trunks...
Yeah, she probably covers it all. Let's see....yeah...oh wait, forget the garotte. That was for p51.

Better-trained people have tried to kill me, PK (and the sad part is, I'm not even kidding at all). You'll have to bring more weapons than that!

Heh heh, no real weapons at Camp, of course. But if I ever do AC, I want to be your downed REO when we're crawling around in the woods at night, being hunted.

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!
Been there, done that and got paid for it (back when the enemy still shot flintlocks at you, it seems that long ago now). But yeah, my experience with doing OPFOR in the Army taught me a lot of stuff. I think if I ever did that, I would make a few enemies among the staff because finding me wouldn't be easy.Phoenix PK wrote:But if I ever do AC, I want to be your downed REO when we're crawling around in the woods at night, being hunted.

Anybody else having a tough time identifying the patch on her shoulder? I think it's a mission patch, but does anybody have a better idea?

Beats me. I, too, can't ID the patch.TheBryanScout wrote:Anybody else having a tough time identifying the patch on her shoulder? I think it's a mission patch, but does anybody have a better idea?
Not a SC-sold patch that I have ever seen. Doesn't look like any NASA mission patch I've ever seen, though it looks like the ISS on it.
Could be someone's design fron camp.

I agree. If you look at the Bloopers video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgeF-Vd48WM) around 36 seconds in with the resolution up as high as it will go, you get a pretty good view of the patch. It definitely says "State of Oregon" around the top.Hotdog wrote:It appears to be the Oregon State Seal

I believe that's the lower level of Hab 2 it has a similar look to the Hab 3 dorms but it is different.

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!
Back to the subject of packing for Space Camp, I brought a robe this year which was comfortable and modest for leaving the Hab room and heading to and from the showers/SCUBA/etc. Also, if you're a coffee drinker like I am, a cup heater coil (AC) will allow you to heat up a (ceramic) cup of water for making instant coffee (I recommend Starbuck's Via products).
Did we mention packing a smile?

Re: Packing for Space Camp: THE VIDEO!
They do. Funny story about that is when I last went to SA during the summer of 2014, Habs 1 AND 2 were so horribly overcrowded that they shipped all youth males below Advanced to AC for the night. They wake you up by blaring music on these big speakers, and sometimes played songs they knew people hated just for added incentive. 'Twas a strange week, morning-wise.Phoenix PK wrote:AC is barracks-style, they probably have to make their bed in the morning.
