I was just going to post that registration is now open.

I went trotting through the system but only saw the base $1299 option available...
Almost certainly, as one person reported to getting the second to last spot.
But, on the Facebook group it was said that they will reset the With an Astronaut option and try to fill a second team. Not certain who that astronaut will be at this point. My guess is that no one thought that the option would fill up that quickly...half the people on Facebook were registered before an official announcement was made.
If you're interested, I would check again tomorrow and/or call (a couple of people had issues with the online registration but the real, live people were able to get them squared away).

Sounds like that is exactly what happened. The "Train with an astronaut" option is live once again!

I seem to be the only one who signed up for the "without" option. I just can't justify the extra $300. Hopefully option 1 will be able to form a team. I'm STOKED!

They have this new buddy system where you associate yourself with a buddy code to be put on the same team. That's how it's supposed to work, anyway. We'll see, I guess. If not Hoot, then any experienced astronaut would be cool, in my mind. I'm just hoping to learn more about the Shuttle cockpit.

I agree PK, this will be a awesome experience at Sapce Camp. Just to listen from words of experience speaks volumes. Looking forward to be a part of this amazing experience.

It would make no difference if USSRC just posted Train with an Astro without saying whom but since they did; I foresee a potential problem, i.e., what has priority, signup date/time or team? It is great that the Astro makes no difference to you but I can see people being upset if USSRC bumped them from HootCamp so people who signed up in the second group could be with their buddies or vice-versa. I had to deal with those things when I was on the soccer board and while it was part of the job, it was not fun. Of course, if Hoot does double duty or if there is only one team, then it is a moot point.

I'm going to imagine that, worst case scenario, you'll still have a regular day and and regular night counselor, and Hoot will just be there to do all of the briefings, mission training, etc. In other words, he'll be fulfilling many of the duties of a regular counselor, but not everything.
That being the case, they could probably make a schedule such that it all works out. I would expect a lot of briefings scheduled together and the like...
Best case scenario, Hoot is your only counselor for half a day and pulls team doubles, having one team during the day and one at night, leaving a regular counselor for the other half of the day.
I agree with Vincent's thoughts. I think I was the first to sign up and I know some of my friends only signed up after the first group was filled. But I doubt that Hoot will be with us for the majority of the time. So he can probably train part of the time with both teams. I never expected that he would be our full-time counselor.

Where's a link for this astronaut for a trainer option? I was telling one of my coworkers about it and he wanted to see a link for it (mainly because I'm pretty sure he doesn't believe it's real).

I don't think there's a direct link to the option, Lee. It comes up when you start the registration process and it appears as a clickable option button.
