Public Display of Affection

Anyone know any ways around the ol' PDA rule? 8)

There's the Omnithatre, I know.
The stairwell front of the Sickbay.

Anyway, thought i'd ask. Suggestions are welcome.

They're very aware of various behavior patterns of kids away from their parents. Most notably, the tendency to try to break their "no PDA" rule. This of course is in effect to reduce any potential liability.

...and they're very good at enforcing it. After 20 years, they know very well the places kids try to get away with it, and I've heard the number of serious indiscretions could be counted on the hand of a bad wood-shop teacher. Of course, they are very tight-lipped about what, if anything, has gone on, so any small details I've picked up over the years are non-specific.

And, of course, they always threaten that if anything does happen, the girl calls the boy's parents and vice versa. Though I've never known it to happen, I wouldn't put it past the staff.

pda

Post by orion8 »

yeah, they are pretty strict about pda. last year, a guy in my room was reprimanded for pda for holding hands with a girl on our team. i never got all the details, all i know is that he came in the room and punched his fist into the wall(left a pretty good dent, too) and his fist was swollen the rest of camp. he didn't get sent home, though, and i dont know if he got punished or anything like that. they were pretty stupid to do it out in the open like that, though. we guys spent the whole time trying to find a way to pda, but in the end we understood that its impossible. there are cameras everywhere in the hab and getting away from the counselors is impossible! Like on our first training mission i was the pilot and tryed a *little* pda in the cockpit before i realised that there was a camera and all of mocr was watching us. My point is that i think they are too strict in this area. Maybe I won't worry so much about it this year as it really took away from the 'space' theme, ya know?

On my team there was a guy and a girl who looked like they were flirting all the time but counselors never noticed. It wasn't a big thing. My team was more interested in the camp than to worry about PDA.

when i was there nobody talked about it other than at the welcome to space camp blablabla talk.
LOL wahts kinda funny though is that i went a night early, so there were liek a bunch of people there right? so like the morning that space camp really started, me and my friend that i went with and some girl we met were in the bathroom up on the 4th floor getting read, and this guy walks in that was in AC and he went to the bathroom then walked out. we were like ummmmmmmmmmmm....but he never got in trouble or anything, we never said anything, but later in the week we were talking to latisha
(-cool counselor!-)about him and she was like ooh he shoulda been sent home.
i didnt think PDA was a problem when i was there. a couple of the guys were really hott, and i did flirt a little, but hehehe thats life

Honestly although i commented on PDA in the Barracks area of the forum i never really thought about it. We had some verry nice looking girls 3 of the 4 years i went but really we all became too good of friends to really think about it. Sure out in the real world outside of camp i'd probably whink diffrently id i'd met them but i was happy to have such good friendships with everyone on the team. And i cant say i never thought about some of the girls on the teams in the way that boy id like to have her for a girlfriend or something like that infact my thinking outloud got me my callsign but thats a long story.

'Loverboy'... Perhaps you'd like to expand on your callsign. Naw, bud. Just joking. Hey everyone. In similar regards to the PDA rule, I bring up another rule I was told, "No boys on the fourth floor and no girls on the second floor" (Meant in regards to the Hab itself) My Q to all of you is, what about the third floor?

It may be the same rule, but the rule wasn't mentioned to my group when I went to Space Academy. It was a hot debate the first night amongst my room mates.

I guess they assume that if they ay no girls allowed on the second floor which is a guys floor they think you'll assume the same goes for the third floor/

They do enforce the rules about the floors. During the eggdrop, my teams' performed great when it was dropped from the 3rd, so we wanted it to drop from the forth to see how it would do...I had dropped it from the third and was all ready to go up the the forth to drop it, but I wasn't even allowed to do that! One of the girls on the team had to go up instead and drop it.

Yeah... the third floor is also off limits. The highest we got was the stair landing half way up to the third floor before getting caught.

When we were doing the egg drop they let the guys and girls on the 3rd. We also had to do the second half of Area 51 inside and again the girls were allowed on the third with no problem.

For parent child camp the mixed teams are put in their own room on the 3rd floor.
