SC Ambassador program? Anyone here in that program?

Post by p51 »

Has anyone here ever put in for this program? http://www.spacecamp.com/community/ambassador/
I was going to sign up for this, but haven't read anything from anyone who's actually doing this.

I remember being really excited when this first came out, but it was limited to Americans only. I see several international people on this list so I may check it out as well.

I looked through the list and found a few have links and emails that don't work anymore, so I wonder how active many of them are in this role...

Beats me. I'm going to complete the forms they e-mailed me today and we'll see where this goes.
I was hoping someone here on this forum might be in it already...

I got the word today that I was accepted. I'm now on the list: http://www.spacecamp.com/community/ambassador/
They're sending info to me on what exactly this entails. I got word at one point that I can sign up people for SC with special pricing. We'll see how that works out and what all it entails. Maybe that means I'd be able to set up groups with a discount? I sort of doubt it but I'll know more once the info they sent me shows up.
I'm more than happy to represent SC anywhere I can, and am happy they decided to allow me to do so! :D

I got the stuff they sent the other day. It's mostly an accordion file with brochures and cards.
I really wish they gave better support than just this, you'd think they would give a guide with suggestions as to how best to represent the program and what a person could get from an ambassador they couldn't get from the website.
Also, the info on discounts for others was really vague...

I've been swapping e-mails with the lady assigned to the program, I think they have renewed interest in it now.
One suggestion I made was for a password-protected forum for those in the program, she replied today that she's already suggested the same thing. I think that'd be vital for those to share info and ideas...

I'm hoping to make it doewn for the Space Camp Hall of Fame this year assuming they actually have one this year. I noticed P51 got a space center id badge when he went to camp the last time i assume it was part of beinbg an ambassador i believe he mentione hit was. Does the badge give you free admission like an employee?

No, it does not give you admission. It is important to wear it when speak at engagements you have about Space Camp. It identifies you as a ambassador & I wear mine when at the Space Center. I am thankful they accepted me in the program last year. Myself & P51 will be attending 4 day camp in the fall, come on down be a part of it.

Yeah, like Steve says, the ID card doesn't get you anything.
That said, the program is public representation of SC and the center for wherever you are. Having an ID card for that really helps, I've found out. People take you more seriously when you can show you have an official center ID card.
I'm wearing mine in the top photo of my personal SC website: http://www.freewebs.com/willysmb44/BelieveSC.jpg
Thank Steve for all that, he's the one who first asked the staff if ambassadors can even have ID cards...

Good to know. I didn't sign up fpor the program for free admission anyway but would have been a nice perk. Even some passes or something i believe would be a good idea simply to make it easier on ambassadors to beable to visit and keep up with what;s current at the space center.

I recieved my ambassador packet today. Your right most of it is just program brochures. for those who have been in the program for a while do they send you new copies of the program info each year? I assume they woukd since the info becomes out of date.

I also have to say on a related topic i'm disapointed with the program brochure this year. It has very generic program descriptions in it that cover all 3 levels of space camp in one generic description same with AC and other programs. Each program use to get its own specific information in the brochure.

NOPE.
They really don't support the program very well.
