Question: Saturn I in the Rocket Park

Post by Hotdog »

OKAY... so I'm building a scale model of the Saturn I in the Rocket Park, and I plan on lighting it up with LED's. It would be nice to include the aircraft warning light, but I don't think Sprocket has used it in years, like since before the Saturn V mockup was built with all of its aircraft lights. I can't seem to find a good night photo showing the Saturn I and it's aircraft light from back-in-the-day, but I know it's there (or WAS there). I'm guessing it's hiding inside the tower jettison motor, which is that black dot about 1/3 of the way down on the escape tower.

So my question is, can anyone on here verify the location of the aircraft warning light on the Saturn I? And is it still there, hidden inside the tower jettison motor, or was it removed and placed on top of the Saturn V mockup?

For what it's worth, I've spent some time looking at the rocket park at night and I have never seen any lights on the this one. Makes sense, as the saturn V is so much taller, you wouldn't need to put warning lights on potential hawards which are much lower than the things that came afterward...

That's why I'm thinking they moved it....either to the Space Shot when it was built in 1996, or to the Saturn V when it was built in 1999. But I do remember seeing the aircraft light on the Saturn I when I was at Camp in the early 90s. So either it's been moved, or they don't use it anymore, because its not in any of the night photos you see online. I've been trying to find some night photos from back then, but not much luck.

I don't remember seeing any lights on this one, only the vertical Saturn V, but I'll check.
