Marshall Tour Brochure

Post by Hotdog »

Last week while I was at Sprocket I happened to notice a NEW brochure for the Marshall tours that I did not notice when I was there last month. I have scanned both sides and put them in this PDF for download:

What kills me is that I ran into someone at lunch today who I'd served with and he'd been at the Missile School staff at Redstone when I was at Space Camp last September! He just retired but he said, "Heck, had I known you were there at the time, I'd have sent a Humvee out to get you and we'd have driven right up to all that NASA stuff you never get close to on the tours!"
Oy, I didn't need to hear that! 8O

I'm just happy I got to go on the tour in the 1990s, before they started restricting it to Americans only. :) Granted, JSC, Goldstone, and KSC have all let me do up close and personal tours since the terrorism hits so I'm not sure what the big deal is with MSFC.

No I didn't take the tour again this time, just grabbed the brochure.

When are you planning on going back? I was going to come down for a night in March sometime as well.

MSFC is the only NASA facility on an active US Army Installation: Redstone Arsenal. It's the Army, not NASA that has that policy restricting it to US citizens.

I believe Dryden, located on Edwards AFB is the same way. (Please, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, I've never been out to Edwards)

Goldstone is at the Fort Irwin Military Base and parts of KSC are part of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Base.

Yeah, but you don't need to prove your citizenship to do the KSC tour...

Redstone has alot things going there. When I rode the bus tour back in December, when we went on base, they required ID presented & searched all empty seats. I am happy they took it seriously when I was there.

I sent a few missile teams to Redstone every now and then when I was still active duty (never got there myself, if I had, I probably would have gone to Space Camp much earlier than last year). They do indeed have a lot of stuff going on there, some of things I worked on they dealt with, I still can't talk about, over 10 years later...

For the in depth tour I went on, we did. Same with Fort Irwin - Goldstone. They required our passports to be presented at both places - twice at Goldstone as there were two security points we passed.

The free public tours at KSC do not need ID of any kind. One of the paid tours that crosses into Cape Canaveral AFB will allow international guests if they provide a valid passport 30 minutes ahead of time.

I was at Sprocket for one afternoon a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't have time to take the tour. I had a friend with me and we arrived too late to do everything so the bus tour was the sacrificial lamb since she didn't seem too interested in that.

I may be back again in a couple of weeks for Yuri's Night, perhaps then I can make the tour again.

Yay! I can go on the Marshall tour in October! I have to provide them with a bunch of stuff ahead of time for preclearance, which I will gladly do. :D It will be exciting to see what has changed since I was last there in October 1999.
