Hab Florida

Post by SpaceCanada »

Per the post on the home page, Hab Florida is being demolished. I've never been in the building, but have been just otuside its doors several times wishing I could go in.

For those who attended prgrams in Florida, what was the inside of the building like? I thought their training floor was in that building too, but I'm guessing not since the ATX is still running whilst this building is decomissioned.

And more waiting begins. I wonder what the new features of the Astronaut Hall of Fame will be. It really is an underappreciated attraction at KSC. It deserves more.

Was the demise of Space Camp Florida directly related to "Winggate" and the problems Space Camp Alabama was having financially at the time?

Space Camp Florida

Post by Conan »

I attended a Parent/Child camp in Florida once. The hab wasn't nearly as nice as the one in Alabama. Dormitory rooms were very large, 24 people to a room and no study area. Women together in one and men in another and no accomodation for opposite sex parents and children. My nephew had to sleep in with all the men. A father on my team was attending with a daughter and we agreed to keep an eye on each others child. Still, it was a bit hard on my nephew who was very shy and hadn't been away from home. The Training center floor was in a different building. It was also much less impressive than Alabama.

I went to a science center in Milwaukee over summer, the guy at the front desk noticed I was wearing a Space Camp shirt, and he said he went to the one in Florida, but he also visited SC Alabama. He said that he thought Alabama was much nicer.

Would be nice to get pics of the thing before they demo it.

Vincent,

Do we have a picture gallery of space camp/USSRC pics? If not this would be a great thing.
