Hard to believe but it was ten years ago today that the Russian Zarya module launched aboard a Russian Proton booster. This began the construction of the ISS. Unity would join Zarya in orbit aboard STS-88 about a month later.
I remember it well just because after years of following the space program and hearing about the future space station it was great to see it finaly go up.
Happy 10th anniversary ISS!

Wow, I remember watching those first few missions ever so closely. It was all the rage at Space Camp too - the NEW ISS. I still have a bunch of books from those first few years that have the completion of the ISS scheduled for 2005, I think, maybe earlier.
It's been quite a journey. Happy birthday ISS!
