USSRC to close 2 days a week to save money

This was posted on collectspace.com and comes from the huntsville times. The space and rocket center will be closed mondays and tuesdays for part of next year to save money. Having just seen the 2009 brochure on the space camp website they must be getting hit hard financialy the new brochure is the same size as one of the museum things they give you when you visit its a fold out guide with brief program descriptions and tells you to go to the website for more info now, it is color with some pictures but it is a sign atleast to me things are not well. Huntsville Times: Space Center cuts hours
Spacesuits, rockets and even the Apollo moonrock at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center museum will be out of bounds to the public on Monday and Tuesday beginning in November.
The Space Center museum and Spacedome IMAX movie theater will close on those two days for four months - from Nov. 3 until March 2, 2009 - to save money because of low attendance. Space Camp and Aviation Challenge will not be affected, said Al Whitaker, Space Center spokesman.

"Mondays and Tuesdays have always been our slowest days of the week with regards to walk-in traffic," said Space Center CEO Larry Capps. "This will enable us to cut our overhead with the least possible impact on our guests."

Capps said the museum will resume seven-day operations "long before the tourist season begins."

Whitaker said the recent Wall Street crisis and rising gas prices had nothing to do with the decision: "We started looking at this in July. Those events certainly haven't helped, but they aren't directly related to this decision. It really is an attendance issue."

No cost savings figures were available.
