Hi, Everyone!

I ran across this brief article and photo collection from a week ago on the CNET site about Space Camp:

http://news.cnet.com/2300-13576_3-62417 ... ne.gall.pg

It's not a lot on the subject, but it is positive PR for Space Camp!

Great. Thanks!

They completely missed mention of the adult programmes, and that's a really interesting International Space Shuttle, but any mention is better than none.

Otherwise, nice article. :)

Notice the Space Camp Barbies in the last photo!

Wonder how the photographer managed to snap the first shot since you cannot view the training center floor anymore. Grrrrr.

Oh, but you can... you just need to know who to talk to, what tricks to pull, and/or how to move the curtain. Not that I have done this before... at night... *ahem*

Or, just go on the catwalk between the offices and the UAT - I think you can still see it unobstructed from there.

Can you see it from the office windows? I think you can.

Training Center floor

I have some lovely photos that I took last year up near the UAT. I didn't have to wait until nightime, either. The door to the stairs is open most days and noone will stop an adult camper with a badge. I will say, though, that there is far less floor visible than when I first attended camp in 1988. It is all modules, now with not much space in between. In 1988, I took a photo from the steps next to the UAT and could see all the way back to the Discovery trainer.

I hate to say this but i think even with out a badge most people just get ignored there. When i was there 3 years ago a friend and i got a tour of the training center from a then employee. While we waited in one of the MOCR's he went tover to Enterprise to take some photos for me. Two counselors came in saw us asked no questions and said nothing to us i guess they just assumed we were allowed to be there. This was also after regular museum hours.

Last summer, a few hours before the alumni camp officially started, four of us were on the training center floor to take some pictures, and we were stopped by some counselors asking us questions about if we knew where we were going. We told them that we knew what we were looking for, although we were just walking around randomly.

On the last day of camp, three of us wandered up to the UAT platform to take some pictures and nobody stopped or questioned us until one of us-and I won't mention any names-opened a door to some computer lab and we were told that we weren't supposed to be up there. I guess it depends on who is around and the mood that the counselors are in.

There's also a coke machine up there that the kids haven't cleaned out yet. Thanks Vince.

The first photo is taken from the viewing platform between the HR Satellite offices and the UAT deck. I took a lot of folks attending Adult camp last fall to that platform during their tour of the facility for the sole purpose of taking just such a photo. It always gets a good 'ooooo' from newbies.

The Space Camp Barbies are in a display cabinet up in the Administrative Offices (2nd floor), right in front of the elevator. There is a lot of fun stuff displayed, including a VHS of the Olson twins and an LP of the sound track from Space Camp, the Movie.

Yeah, we went up there at the start of Adult ASA last fall to get a good look the the training center floor and to take pictures. When I collected everyone's picture files to burn copies for the whole team I think everyone had some variation of that specific picture.
