Space Toilet Woes
The ISS is having loo problems. Space plumbers are difficult to come by. Thank goodness Discovery is on the pad scheduled to launch tomorrow, complete with plumbers... errr... astronauts... to save the day:

I've seen pictures of the devise that is needed for repairs. It's kind of a long wooden handle with this rubber suction cup thingy on one end.

Can you imagine the mad scramble when the Shuttle, with it's working potty, docks to the Station?

During my 24 hour mission, our shuttle toilet was "broken". The fan was reversed and we had to take it apart and reverse it. It was a scenario that happened on an actual mission but I can't remember which one.

STS-46, I believe
(No, I did not know this off-hand, Google helped me.)
I can see a spoof of the Apollo 13 film scene where instead of the engineers designing an adapter for the CO2 scrubber they have to build a space toilet from scrap or repair it with items on board like duct tape, the flight manual, socks, etc. The life and death of the astronauts depend on it.
Oh, how my imagination goes off on strange tangents at times...

I would hope that the replacement isn't made of a manual, duct tape, and socks. Two of the three don't hold water too well...
