Flight Suits

Post by Mercergl »

Do a lot of people in the 8 day Space Academy wear their flightsuits around camp?

Most people in MY experience with 8 day either wear their flight suit during the missions, or during graduation. Never really inbetween. Can you imagine the amazing race with a flightsuit? Scary thought.

Thanks... again. i think we've been having three conversations at once... but i really apprciate the help! Can't wait to go back :D I don't think that any kind of race would be very good (or safe, for that matter). That might be something interesting to try, though...

Believe me when you are down here in summer you will want to wear your flight suit as little as possible. Mission and grad time is probably your best time. Wear it much more it will get really ripe in this heat and humidity. Notice you rarely see counsel;ors wear them thats because they are tough to wear all day when its hot.

Well if it is still so cold in the dorms, you might want to wear it to bed. :-)

Now theres an idea... Maybe they should have us go out at night and sleep during the day. That way it isn't cold at night and its not hot all day. :)

Ah, but you're forgetting two things.
First, Alabama (and the entire south) is incredibly humid in the summer. So, especially if you're not used to the really warm weather, it's not so much the heat that gets you, it's the humidity.
And, two, the south in the summer isn't quite like the north in the summer. It doesn't really cool down that much at night. It does become more bearable, but only just, especially in July and August.
I've always equated the summers in the south with the winters in the north. It's not terribly comfortable to be outside for long periods of time, but for the opposite reason. The only difference is that you can better dress for the cold.

Ahhhhhhh...the memories of a nice, northern summer. I've been in Texas much too long.

The thing about northern summers (ney york and such) is that people will be walking around complaining of the unbearable heat when it is 80 degrees and 0% humidity. funny how opinions about temperature are so different.

I sure didn't mean to imply that it was cool in the evening. Unlike in the Southwest it does NOT cool down there and the humidity is overwhelming. Kind of hits you in the face when you get off the plane!

However the dorms are cold (or were). I was just freezing all the time. I wore the flight suit (as did most of the adults) during the day, but then I went in Sept or something like that, not August.

I've been lucky (or unlucky) enough to arrive in the day, so i wouldn't know much about the night temperatures getting off the plane. all i know is that when I was down there, I liked the night better than the day, plain and simple...

Somehow, you get used to it. I grew up in Philly and didn't think I'd get used to Florida weather. Eventually, my blood thinned.
