Counselor Hotdog?

Counselor Hotdog?
so here is a nutty surprise turn-of-events.
a girl i have been kinda seeing/dating lately may be re-locating to the Rocket Center area.
SO....if she moves down there, not only would i be visiting the Rocket Center a lot more often, but the idea of moving to Space City permanently could become a reality for me.
That being said, I could possibly find myself living out my dream to be a SC Counselor a lot sooner than I imagined!
Just thought I'd pass that along...

Counselor Hotdog, I think you should go for it. I recall looking at the applications way back in, you know, 1871 or so. They weren't online of course. I couldn't think of how I could leave my cats all summer.
And now i have another child (dog anyway). So the fewer hitches you have to Chattanooga the easier it is to leave. (Whenever I see that town's name I want to sing a certain silly song about "passengers will please refrain from flushing toilets while the train is standing in the station", but I definitely digress!)

I agree go ahead and apply and that goes for anyone who is intrested. I waited years thinking they probably wouldnt take me because of working around the wheel chair might be too hard. Well they have fixed alot of those problems though not all of them so i decided to apply this year and hear i am.

I plan on reapplying for a summer position (hopefully longer) as soon as they starting taking applications.

Go for it Chris! You would be a great counselor!
I would love to be a counselor, but I don't think that at this point in my life that would be possible. My fiance knows how much I love Space Camp, but I don't think moving 500 miles away will make him happy. He did tell me after I returned from camp that if I got a good job there, he would move down there with me. I don't think that a counselor qualifies as his definition of a good job.
My body cannot take the heat either. Just spending the weekend down there (and rarely spending time outside) caused me to break out in heat rash.
I heard that the pay isn't that great either. I make more at my current job. I wish that being a Space Camp counselor would fit more into my lifelong plans, but I think that at this point in my life it would be more like a step back.

i know the feeling. it would have worked for me as a high school graduate attending college in the Huntsville area, but that didn't happen for me since I took off to art school instead. There are really only two realistic scenarios that could find me back at SC as a counciler. First is the "Rock Star Hotdog" scenario where I hit the big time as a graphic designer, getting paid alot to do very little work in my spare time and devote my daytime hours to SC. Then, there is the "Geezer Hotdog" scenario where I retire from graphic design and work at SC as an old man (it would sure beat bagging groceries down at the local Bi-Lo).pilotgirl21 wrote: I heard that the pay isn't that great either. One other option is if you can find a good weekday job in the huntsville area you can be hred on as a counselor 2 and just put down weekend availability. Yes it kills your weekends but you could work at camp on weekends and a higher paying job duing the week. Only counselor 3's have to have open availability to work any day of the week.

My husband asked me why I didn't go back there after college and work full time. Simple...pay. Back in the day, it wasn't much above minimum wage. Sure you get housing and discounts on food, but being as I just got my chemistry degree, I knew I could make tons more elsewhere.
Geezer Counselor
I have been telling my family for years that I would retire to Huntsville and be an old lady Space Camp volunteer. It sure would beat shuffleboard in Florida. It is getting to be a closer possibility each day!
