one of my campers last summer wrote a cadence for our team that I got permission to use with my teams later on...
The other problem is the big wigs up top don't like the military aspects of it, so we're not allowed to sound off or do anything like that up top because it might scare away the museum customers.

well the military aspects of ac are one of my favorite parts, especially that first week of mach III with all of the new stuff that they were doing, every team had a guidon and it had to be with them or in the bubble room at all times, that kind of stuff it really made things fun

I love the military aspects too, unfortunately, some kids just wanna go for the fighter pilot sims, and their mommy and daddy called and complained, and so now it's been cut from the actual program, though some counselors (depending on the teams) manage to sneak it in anyway.

I remember when i went in 96 thinking that there wasnt enough military stuff even then. Ofcourse it depended on the team. My team was very lax Grunts on the otherhand was alot more military. I remember them marching everywhere they went sitting in unison at meals etc. I was in Marine JROTC at the time had just finished my second year of it. The AC PT would have been no problem if i could survive 90 minutes of pt with a marine Mastery Gunnery Sergeant i could have survived it. I do remember one other thin we had in 96 that made it look a little more military. Each team had a Squadron Guidon (flag for those who don't know) that we carried with us everywhere we went. Heck i even wore my marine garrison cover with my flight suit which is the propper uniform cover for that uniform. It caught Grunts attention in about 5 minutes. I would have liked to have been on his team because it was more military like but i did love the team i was on too. Ofcourse we also had a drill competition that week. I could have won it too except for not seening a rather short person to my left when given the order dress right dress and didnt put my arm up. Turns out someone from Grunts team won. But then i knew all the drill stuff they taught before i got there.

tennisrox - I wasn't trying to imply there was. I just think it would be wicked cool if we split up Mach III into tracks - a military track and a sim track or something, so that kids more interested in the military aspect could have that as well as the pilot stuff.

The general consensus from Up Top wouldn't want a military track. We caught enough flak about that from some interested parents (See a future IRON GUMP story for this one).
The idea was to intersperse some military aspects, but not completely overdo it. Some counselors were better at it than others, and some wanted nothing to do with it, despite the fact that AC is built around one simple concept:
Military Aviation.
Until such time as that is re-recognized, those aspects will be lost.

i would support tracks... there are always kids who like to fly, then those who like to sit in the dirt... everyone would be happier to do more of their favorite activity

Sometimes I wonder if up top had their way, they'd do away with AC all-together... Or bring it more fully under space camp's direct supervision and eliminate a lot of the things that make AC cool.

Simply put, AC could be the most effective, profitable program at USSRC if run by the right group of people. The equipment is there, the capabilities are there it just needs the right mindset and funding.

Hey Pyro,
I doubt you remember me, but you were my team leader on doubles at the end of summer '03. Now I'm back for my second season as a counselor at AC.
