Any good jobs?
I have never worked outside my house for money, what are some good jobs for a 17 year old that will help me get some money so i can go to space camp? I'm from Richmond VA.. I want to go this year but as you all know it is a lot of money for camp itself not to mention travel and stuff.

depends on your interests, being in richmond you can try to get an internship with a government contractor of your choice, they can pay well and it looks great for colleges. elsewhere id say check in with people in your church or other place of worship, see who might have a small buisness and needs a summer employee.

Granted its been many years since i've been there but i believe Richmond still has a science museum. You might want to try applying there. That way it also relates to science. You would probably be selling or collecting tiiclets or something along those lines but it beats working in a fast food restraunt or grocery store. If i were you i'd check there and see if any jobs are available for someone your age. If you were closer to Hampton roads i'd say come apply at the museum where i work but i doubt you need a 90 minute commute each way to work.

I worked as a nanny for my neighbours for a few years. It was great for over the summer because we got to go for bike rides, go swiming, and all the other fun stuff associated with summer, and I got paid for it - nice!
Other than that, if you have an interest in swimming, you could see if the local pool is willing to train and hire you. Pools always need extra staff in the summer.
Check with your City too - I know they hire a lot of high school and university kids here to do things like cutting grass, weeding gardens, etc. It's usually for a good wage and you get to be outside most of the day.
Other places that usually need summer help: landscaping companies, golf courses, museums, kids' summer camps - become a counsellor!
Other than that, suggestions from the other people here all sound good.

If you have money up front to become a certified lifeguard it's a great job....it pays really well too b/c of the certification. Plus people ask lifeguards for private lessons so you can make more money on the side. I know in my area city lifeguards (me) get paid more than subdivision guards...
