It depends, do you want to pilot the shuttle or would you rather do the eva. I have done both positions and I prefer mission specialist.

I've done both as well and they were both great fun! When you were at academy or camp which position did you like best? Take whatever you liked for previous programs and try it at ASA. The only real difference is that the tracks at ASA are more developed. Whichever one you pick will be loads of fun so its not like you can make a mistake!

Through out my camp and academy years i always was pilot/commander so i tried MS one year. It was fun but i perfered going the pilot track...i liked how "fast paced" the positions in the orbiter were. I also liked going down to ac and flying the sims over there...although...scuba diving is fun and you do have the choice of doing that and being a pilot now...

It really comes down to if you want to fly the shuttle or go on the eva. If it's the SCUBA pilot track I don't think you go down to AC so the only differences with be the few lectures that are different for pilots and mission specialists. If you like flying go for pilot. If you want to hang from the roof and fix the satellite go for MS.

When I did the 8 day is was 2 two-hour missions broken up into one hour blocks and then the final mission. The final mission is 6 hours long if you're just in a regular session. The time spent apart is just a few hours at different times throughout the week.

They've changed the way missions go for the 6 day. The 8 day was the year before they started 12 day. I think the 6 day has 4 short missions and then the 6 hour mission. You should check with someone who did 6 day last year.
