Cameras

Post by rycho626 »

I usually bring disposable cameras to camp but thus none of my indoor pictures ever show up. I brought my old Kodak (i think) Owl to camp last year but do u have any reccomendations for cameras to bring that are non-digital?

Sorry, can't help you there. I took my digital camera. Speaking of which, I need to get my 12 day pictures online.

any sort of decent realatively new point and shoot should work well. you probably dont need a zoom or stuff like that, check out http://www.bhphotovideo.com/. i used to use a little minolta, it worked really well but its about 5 years old. If youre buying a new camera and willing to spend the money, go digital its so much better

I bought a new camera for my most recent Space Camp trip too. I am a very picky photographer, so when my big clunky stone age SLR camera won't do, I use the new point and shoot one. (OLYMPUS Infinity Zoom 80 QD)

Most of the really cheap flash cameras (under $20 US) will not give you good results in low light. Yet, you do not have to go to the super high priced camera to get decent pictures. I went for something in the mid-range with simple features and 2x zoom.

Here are some thing to look for when buying a simple yet decent camera:

1. Flash - it MUST have flash, no questions!
2. You should be able to manually turn the flash to automatic or off.
3. Red Eye is nice, but not necessary.
4. Zoom is also nice, but not necessary.
5. Night option is good for in the TCF and of the Pathfinder at night.
6. Avoid APS unless you NEED the panoramic feature. The photo quality tends to be poor with APS cameras. If you choose APS, go with Fuji's really neat looking circle shaped camera - it actually takes decent pictures!
7. Self-loading film is always nice, but not necessary

Basically, anything with a good brand name on it (Olympus, Minolta, Nikon, Canon, Pentax, FujiFilm, Samsung, Konica, etc.) that has 2x zoom and minimal features, and not too pricey ($40-$70), will be perfect. Try out a roll of film in many different conditions (indoors, outdoors, night, low light, etc.) before you go to make sure it works the way you want it to.

Photo labs (even those in department stores) sometime sell used cameras, so be sure to ask.

all 3 of my main cameras are canon products, digital rebel, powershot a75, and a EOS A2E. I recomend/trust canon. i suggest you go to a ritz camera or similar store and play with the different cameras, see what you like.

The Canon SureShot 80u (or any other SureShot model with zoom) are great cameras and will take lovely pictures.

Beware of the SureShot BF-10 though. It does not have any features for night shots, action shots, or anything of the sort. It also does not have zoom. It would work fine for the basic Space Camp things, but it wouldn't be as versatile when you want to use it later.

Excellent choice! Be sure to try out all the features and learn how everything works before you go to camp. That way you can use the special features to take some unique pictures of your teammates and campus. Enjoy your new camera!
