Advice

Post by utvolsfan2000 »

So here we are, mere days from moving into a new and crazy enviroment. Any last advice anyone would want to give to the crazy people who will be counselors at Space Camp this summer? Anything to pack? Not to pack? Things to do? Just looking for anyone who wants to toss in some ideas

Bring things to keep you sane after being around so many crazy campers! :D Books, music, something to write in (keeping a journal of your experience might be cool), and sun block! It gets so sunny, and if you have campers like me (who didn't bring sun block) you'll be very much loved for having it. :D

Well obviously i am not nor have i ever been a counselor but i would say that you should remember what the counselors you had did that made you remember camp and try to recipricate that to the kids you deal with. I know thats kinda obvious but i still think its worth mentioning. As far as packing... Music! pack music!

Remember though, whatever you bring had better fit in one of these:

Now, these "pie rooms" and the Hab2 rooms (slightly larger than the pie rooms) are smaller than the "bubble" rooms, but since you won't know what kind of room you have until you get there, you can't count on getting one of the larger bubble rooms.

Make sure your stuff and your roommate's stuff will all fit!

Any more pictures of the RA rooms? Might be good to know what I am looking forward to.

The info booklet says that most rooms have a desk... is that true? I'm trying to decide if I should bring my computer or not. I'd like to have it so I can store digital photos from my camera, and listen to music / watch DVD's; but I don't want to haul it down there and just have it sit in my car.

Any past counselors have recommendations?

It depends on the room. All the rooms in Hab 1 have a desk, but the rooms in Hab 2 don't. And you won't find out where you''ll be staying till you get to camp. Also, you will more than likely have a roomate, and have to share whatever space that you have. But it's totally up to you, and don't forget that Walmart is not that far from camp, and it's one of the first stops for new counselors. I don't know how much this helped, but other counselors can give you different opinions.

GAHHH!!!! I HATE WALMART!!! We especially refuse to shop at the Walmart on University ever again.

I'd definitely recommend Target over Walmart. Especially that Walmart. It will save you a major headache (and since you're preparing to be a counselor I'm guessing one less headache will be appreciated).

"crisis" adverted... I just bought a used laptop off of Ebay to take with me instead.
