Briefings
I liked messing with plant's minds... but no, it wasn't the most interesting briefing by far.
I liked some chem briefing, I only had it once the third year I went, outside Astrotech and kind of close to Pathfinder. The briefer burned a lot of stuff, (it was... dusk-ish so it looked even cooler) and talked about Homer Hickam and explosives... it was supposed to be useful for rocketry; we didn't use any of those chemicals, but it was still fun.
Speaking of rocketry, that reminds me of the time someone used a stink bomb as rocket payload and also the interesting launch where the rocket came back at us and nearly hit some guy (who immediately jumped up).
Another briefing I really enjoyed was the survival skills one (yes, space academy/asa). We made tents from parachutes/tarp and learned what to do and what not to do if we were ever stranded in a forest/island/place where people could not find us quickly.
Briefer: Now, if you are ever stranded, do NOT run around yelling, "we are all going to die". You will waste energy and you will die.
Me and Christy (running around a tree): We're all gonna die! *smack*... (that was our heads....)
And Von Tsenhower (sorry for the mis-spelling ) was cool....

I always enjoyed the tent building but apparently girls are only supposed to carry sticks. lol. who knew? VonT is fun if its in the beginning of the week but if its later its REALLY hard to stay awake especially when you've heard it lots.

In 4 years of camp i never fell asleep in a lecture did come close twice. Once in 93 with VonT back then he did an astronomy lecture that was really boring. Then in 98 during the space piloting lecture.

lol, while the guys talk about building the tent and how to do it most efficiently (even though, for the record. that tent SUCKED!) the girls may go out and find large sticks. hehehe. oh, i was so tempted to murder that kid. or cut off that braid. either would be as devastating to him. lol.

tents
Of my 3 groups, only one had guys that made the girls look for sticks. Otherwise a) the guys didn't care or b) the girls outnumbered the guys, 11-7, so... I was always building tents and loving it.

I would say to tell your son NOT to use a payphone with his calling card. It will cost you guys back home a TON of $$$. Tell him to use the Huntsville Local Call Phone. Its an 800 anyway.....
Also tell him to bring some extra cash. Snacks in the middle of the night are always handy. They dont tell you this before, but bring $10 extra too!!! They sell mission patches with your team's name and other people on your team. They are extra cool........
Pretty much, all my advice is the same as everyone elses.
