The reason F/A-18 is on the list is because that is the simulator type AC wants to go with. It was decided to put some information about the aircraft up there. I'll modify the verbage on the website encase there is any confusion.

regarding the saturn V - I'm not sure if this is true or not, but the story I always heard was that the Sprocket center "stole" it from the smithsonian or NASA... Basically, NASA or the Smithsonian (I don't remember which one lent it to the USSRC) asked for it back, and so the USSRC said they needed trailers to move them. While the trailers were being built, the USSRC went off and had the Saturn V site declared a national landmark. When the trailers were completed, the USSRC said "whoops, sorry, you can't have that back now, because it's a national historic landmark now."
But that's just the story I remember hearing.

Hab I (II? the pringle cans) is designed to mimic a space station, including having its bathrooms labeled waste control and the water fountains labeled H2O Dispensers.

the other hab, the one for the space campers, has counselor rooms in between the large lecture room (columbia?) and the camper rooms.

I don't know the specifics of where it is, but supposedly there's internet access somewhere at camp that sometimes campers have access to - I know I've seen some campers make posts on here from camp, but I never saw it while I was there - maybe I'll find them this summer while I'm there as a counselor.

I know more random crap, but being 6am on the day before my finals, I really should be studying or doing homework - or sleeping! So I'm going to go get back to that...

That sounds right. I was able to send greetings to all my friends when they let us in. Couldn't use email though, they had it filtered from the computers.

Cygnus was my room the first time i went to camp and now it's a comp. lab. i've been on the internet a few times there...

about the whole saturn v thing...i wrote that down a while ago and the story was shot down...the reasons why should be on the first page or so of this topic...

Whoever said the Saturn V is one of the three left over flight vehicles from Apollo is incorrect. The 2 left over flight vehicles are at KSC and JSC the third left over vehicle was used to launch Skylab. The one at the USSRC is only a test article ast stated before.

Another intresting fact about the Saturn V is the Apollo CM on the top or at the end depending on how you look at it is CM-010 a leftover unflown Block 1 Apollo CM. For those of you unfamiliar with the block 1 capsules they were designed to be used for Earth Orbit test flights of the Apollo CM. They didnt have the docking mechanisms of the Block 2 capsuules and had several other diffrences. Apollo 1 would have flow with a Block 1 capsule so would several other earkly flights according to the original Apollo plan. However the Block 1's only flew unmanned.

A fact I am unsure about, and hopefull someone can affirm or correct it, is that the lunar rover wheels were made from E key piano strings. Why, I forget. It may not even by the lunar rover, but something had tyres made from paino strings... so sad how memories fade...

Total random flashback... Didn't there used to be a digital clock mounted somewhere in Rocket Park or on the USSRC building? I remember seeing it in 1998 flashing the time and the temperature both in Fahrenheit and Celsius. It was an absurd 40 degrees C plus humidex. (I really appreciated how it displayed temperatures in Celsius...)

Any-who... what ever happened to that clock? Or, is the heat here (30C/86F - abnormally hot) causing me to go dillusional?

Your not dilusional the clock was there at one time don't know if it still is or not. I remember one day it reading 99 F have no clue what that is in C

99 - 32 = 67
67 / 1.8 = 37.2 Celsius

It was reading 101 and 103 when I was there in 1998... oy...

I wish I lived in Iqaluit right about now, their high is a nice 11C/52F today!

The story that I told about it being stolen from the smithsonian is pretty much true - you'll see the sign that declares it a national historic landmark, and it's why they can't move it to build a building for it - it has to stay EXACTLY where it was - it was supposed to only be on loan from the Smithsonian, but Sprocket didn't want to give it back from what I understand. As to what it's original purpose was, that I can't tell you, but I was told it was supposed to be one of the Apollo launchers that got cancelled - the validity of that, I can't guarantee.

One story that I can tell you that's true, though, is about the Skylab peice. The oxygen tank that fell in australia. Apparently, there was a law that allows countries to fine other countries for space debris - and so Australia charged the U.S. $400 for the oxygen tank that landed there - but America didn't want to pay. One of the scientists at the time, wanted it so much, that he went there and paid for it out of pocket. However (and this story has been confirmed by someone who worked with this scientist), Australia never cashed his check, and the glass case it's kept in says it's on loan from some museum type thing in Australia. There's an interesting story we generally don't share with the kids.

Thats because its not nearly as fun as the jackrabbit one!

I love that story. Even if it isn't true I'm still highly amused by it.

I want to say I heard it from one of the museum people; not just a space camp person. And they said they were giving a tour on which someone who'd worked with that scientist told her the rest of the story and confirmed the facts. Now, whether or not THAT person was lying - well, I like to think they told the truth.

What jackrabbit story?
