We wanted to try it in a sim after a mission, but never got the chance. You can download Orbiter for free, though, at http://www.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/~martins/orbit/orbit.html.

Benji:
One of the pilots on my tam had his laptop with the Orbiter software on it at camp. Every space moment we had, and that wasn't much time, he was trying something out and practising his take-offs and landings, etc. We asked him to try out some really silly scenarios too.
So, what DOES happen if you jettison the SRBs or ET shortly after lift-off?

Well, when you jettison the SRBs, the orbiter hangs in the air for a few seconds before starting to fall. In the Orbiter software, it won't explode or anything, though I kinda assume it would at least break up or something. If you jettison the ET, too, it doesn't really go anywhere in relation to the orbiter, since they're traveling with the same relative velocity.

so yeah, confessions time. I totally spent forever on Binary Star's website the other day, and it looks like they would be very, very easily able to add missions to mars and das moon.
Das moon.
