Dogfighting practice and training
I found that in AC they do not give you a lot of time to guide you through the tricks and tactics in dogfighting.
I recommend buying the game "Israeli Air Force" (for the PC) by Janes (part of Electronic Arts) because it is the only combat simulation that I know that has a dogfighting tutorial. The manual itself is also informative on tactics.
For tricks practice Microsoft Flight Simulator can help you a bunch.

We didnt get alot of dogfight training wither but our mission also turned out to be a ground attack mission. And even though we did have counselors attack us in sims my pilot and i took out 2 counselors before being shot down ourselves.

Training
Our mission was to destroy the Kosanese compound, and it was a ground attack mission also (I piloted an A-10 Warthog). Still, other people faced off against computer generated planes.
In Top Gun I immelmanned at exactly the same time as they did, so I was behind them and I scored points due to my locking on them several times. I and my copilot lost to two AC veterans from my team.

If i remember right each sim session was an hour long and you had two sim sessions a day every day except the first one when you only had 1.

Their is a big mission at thge end of the week but its not anywhere near as long. The AC mission only takes as long as it takes you to take out your primary and secondary targets or for the whole team to get killed whatever comes first.

Oh it was definately fun. One time we finished our scheduled stuff in the sims early and they let us do fre air to air combat against eachother. I found one of my teamtes planes and tried to shoot him down with a missile. Next thing i know i hear someone yelling who just shot a missile at me? well it missed but it sure freaked him out.

Most of the counselors probably have alot of practice at doing that.

That would be interesting to see. I wonder if they ever get any ex military pikots in their. I think it would be kind of anticlimactic for someone who was a fighter pilot in real liife to go to a place like AC and only get to fly sims on the ground. Ofcourse a few years back you couls actually pay a few hundred dllars extra and really get to fly and do dome air to air combat against other AC people with lasers.
