Returned from Russia

Post by ethlar04 »

So i just got back from Russia today, and after fixing my computer (which had the good sense to die the day before i left :x ) I am in the process of starting to assemble the pictures into a webpage but i got up at 4am moscow time and have been up for almost 24 hrs straight due to jet lag. So as soon as i can make the webpage and get it hosted pictures will be availabe from my whole trip.

I have never been on a tour of any of the american space centers so if i am in error feel free to correct me, i am going off of what my star city guide told us. I was also allowed to take pictures of everything

Star City itself doesnt really have a museum associated with it, the tour you go on is actually walking through the training facilities. The russian equivalent to camps TCF is actually divided between several buildings. my tour started in the one which houses the soyuz simulators, while in there cosmonaut Sergei Krikalev from expedition 1 was training for another mission to the ISS. His shoes were outside the simulator, a tradition started back with Gagarin. Next we went to the "hydro-basin" the russian UAT where there were 2 cosmonauts practicing for an eva on their upcoming mission. From there we went to the hangar that NASA doesnt want people to see, the training mockups of the russian components from the ISS, from what i was told NASA still doesnt want people to be able to view the components but we got to see them anyway. Finally we were taken into another hanger where the main parts of the Mir station were kept, we were actually allowed to go inside the Mir sim to take pictures and look around.

I am working as quickly as i can on the webpage and will hopefully have that up for you all to view very soon.

[quote="SamM"]hey this is random...[quote]

I bet if we tallied the number of times the word "random" has been posted on this board, it'd be on more than all space-related words combined. Maybe we should change this site's tagline ("Providing news, information, and memories for Space Campers") to "Eh, Vince randomly created a Space Camp site".
