As a Space Camper I have very little understanding of how things work at AC. How do you get your nickname? I have heard that some people get their nickname by something embrassing happening to them.

on the first day at ac you have icebreakers, everyone on your team tells an embarassing story and gets a nickname from that, for example... this one guy's story was how he played football and got pantsed and we called him debrief... stuff like that

Yeah i got mine because for like a year of my life i stated the obvious way too much. So my friends all called me Sherlock and because i couldnt think of anything embarrasing (i dont really get embarrased) i took that name.

i could never think of any embarassing stories, i know i have some but at the moment i couldnt think of any, so the first time i was lizard because my name is liz and the 2nd i was sisqo because i always wore flip flops and the aulstralians on my team called them thongs and earlier that day we had been singing the thong song

My nickname would be something like Trip. I once tripped in a 3rd grade play in front of the whole entire elementary school.

Embarassing stories... hmmm...

After a hair-cutting disaster in Form 3/Year 9 people thought I was a boy for about a year until my hair grew to a decent length. "Oh, what would your two sons like for dinner?" Ahhhh...
Possible nickname: Short-cut

When I was a toddler I climbed on top of a chair to get something and fell into a rubbish bin; giving myself a good gash on the chin requiring several stitches.
Possible nickname: Stinky

Another time as a toddler I fell down the stairs and knocked myself out. The paramedics came and started shining lights in my eyes. My eyes were all over the place; definitely not where they should have been looking. The paramedics freaked out "We need to get her to the hospital quick, her eyes shouldn't be doing that!" When Mum said that was normal they gave her a very strange look... You see, I was born with severely crossed eyes, and sometimes my eyes would cross so much they would be all white. Several surgeries later, I now look half-normal when I remove my glasses. Although, doctors can never tell if I have suffered a concussion and thus, when it doubt, they presume I have.
Possible nickname: Crazy Eyes

Other nicknames I have been given over the years include: SpaceCanada (obviously), Smurf (from my blue flightsuit), Shorty (I'm vertically challenged and kid-sized), and Chipmunk.

I'm sure if I ever went to AC they'd have no problem finding a good nickname for me!

Ok since this thread has once again surfaced i guesws ill tell the story of my callsign for anyone who has never heard it as well as the others on my team in 96.

Loverboy (me) My embarrasing story comes from space academy in 93 when my roomates found out i really liked this one girl on our team. Well during our discovery mission one decided to tell everyone over the radio. I told that story to my Ac team they came up with Loverboy.

Streaker (Mike) His story was that one night aparently hwent sleepwalking down the street in his underwear.

WD-40 aka Wet Dreamer (Saul) Dont remember the whole story just remember it involved a rainy church camping trip and the youth pastors daughter enough said.

Pervert (Andy) Aparebtly was caught looking at porn by his parents on the internet.

Dogmeat (Elliot) Something about a dog bight dont remember whole story

Rip Off ( Matt) caught stealing something as a kid.

Jawbreaker (Jamie) She fell off a stage during a show at school and broke her jaw.

Stripper (Alex) Was a life guard and jumped into the water and lost her top.

Spew (Johana) Drunk so much one night thats what she was doing for hours.

Hangover (Dorothy) Got her foot stuck in the bed when making it the first night at camp and was left literally hanging over the edge.

Boy Toy (Tiffany) aparently liked to sing madonna songs in the bathroom and was caught on tape so we used madonnas nickname.

they let you guys give names like stripper and pervert?!?!

We had to give names that wouldnt supposedly hurt anyones self esteem...

Yeah they let us the counselors were shaking their heads the whole time but they l;et us. I can only imagine what some ofthe families were thinking at graduation though.

yeah i dont know what my mom would've said if i came home and told her my call sign at camp was stripper or pervert... im not sure i would've been going back to ac any time soon...

my first year we had a girl called showoff cause she dropped her pants for everyone. second year there was a guy we called moonshine cause he did the same at a pool for the cheerleading team at his school, and another guy showed up late, and since we had wanted to name someone crack, and he was the last one so he got it, he didnt even have to tell his story. This past year i was named Boo Boo, due to a very expensive accident, that one actually lasted into my second week at space camp as well.
