i wonder if you can take pie into space...maybe the dollar menu ones? or is it freeze dried...then i wouldn't like pie. :D

Back to TISH... Thomas J. Kelly died two years ago today at the age of 75. He managed design, development, and flight of the Apollo Lunar Module, receiving NASA's Distinguished Public Service Medal in 1972 for his work. Thereafter he served in various Grumman positions. He retired from Grumman in December 1992.

He published an autobiography, Moon Lander: How We Developed the Apollo Lunar Module in May 2001.

13 years ago today, astronaut Dr Manley Lanier (Sonny) Carter Jr died at age of 43 in the crash of a commercial airliner while on NASA business. He was on the crew for STS-61I, cancelled after Challenger, and flew on STS-33.

Six years ago today, From the Earth to the Moon was released on HBO.

Today in 1945, Franlkin Delanor Roosevelt died.

In 1961, President John F. Kennedy, in his regular press conference, stated that "no one is more tired than I am" of seeing the United States second to Russia in space.

In 1962, the Soviets announced their goal to land a man on the Moon.

In 1981, Robert Crippen and John Young took Columbia out for the maiden voyage of the Space Shuttle program.

In 1984, the crew of STS-41C successfully released the Solar Max satellite, completing the first on-orbit satellite repair.
