Space Camp Wings

Post by Drumrollz »

So for at least six weeks now, I've been having CONSTANT dreams about Space Camp. Usually, in most of them, I forget my lanyard, and so I try and tell people that I've been multiple times before, but no one believes me. Last night, I had a dream that I was at the July special session, and I was asking who was from Hab1, and no one had EVER heard of Hab1.com before. It was freaky.

Any dreams you guys have had about SC that you'd care to share?

Actually if you dig deep enough into the hab you'll find this topic somewhere on here before. I think i was the one who actually started it after i had had a dream some time ago. I don't remember thaty dream anymore its been so long but i know i have had several over the years. I know i had one recently unfortunately now i don't remember anything about it. Guess i should have posted it the next day instead of waiting.

Well these days i have all my wings along with my other space and aviation pins on my old NASA hat that i bought at Space academy back in 93. But starting in 93 i wore my wings on my flight suit. Ussually on my leather name tag so in 93 i had my camp wings attached to my name tag right over the gold wings on the tag. then when i got my wings in 93 i put them just below my name on the flight suit name tag. When i went in 96 i brought my name tag to wear on my issued flight suit but then our counselors got everyone a name tag with their callsign so i never wore my old one at AC. But then in 98 i wore my old name tag with the wings and i put my Ac wings below it on my flight suit and that got a few peoples attention since back then there weren;t as many return campers as there seem to be now.

I have a set of Academy wings (they're the nice ones) on my ABC lanyard and a set on my Lightning lanyard. I was at a tex-mex restaurant and I met someone who'd been to camp 'cause I was wearing camp stuff.

The old academy Level 2 wings were much nicer than the current ASA wings. They were still the same basic shape with the middle being round but they were gold in color and had the space camp logo in the middle instead of Saying Advanced Space academy like they do know. As far as i know granted my las pair of academy wings date back to 93 the main diffrence between the ones used by ASA and SA is the shape. The center on the SA wings is more like that of regular pilot wings kind of like a shield. whereas the ASA wings are circular in the center also the shape of the wings themselves is diffrent atleast on mine. And i know in the past AC and SA wings had color in the middle part. My SC wings have red and my SA wings are blue. And ofcourse the AC wings have a triangle in the middle with the AC symbol.

Maybe someone could scan in the different wings so we can better understand the difference. I have only ever seen the ASA wings, so I have nothing to compare them to.

I tried to do that once...scanning odd-shaped metal objects is not very fun.

...I think I've got some photos around though...dunno...I'll check.

And if no one else can, I can probably get them in about a month or so.

well, I found two so far on my computer...

here's a bad photo of the camp wings:
Image

...basically, the academy wings look similar, but have a different color background and the test says "Space Academy" instead.

and here's a look at a pair of Space Camp Canada Wings, for our friends North of the border!

Academy/Camp and AC wings definitly look more like real wings and are much more pleasing to the eye in my opinion. I think the adapted the ugly version of ASA wings cause they had to fit all that writing into a little space... just a thought. This reminds me of a story a counselor told me about how she woke up and stepped on a set of wings... They dont look as nice on feet as they do flight suits!
