X-Mas Camp Wrap-Up

Post by Benji »

Alright, I'm gonna start posting about the session of camp that I just returned from. Feel free to join in. Sara will be coming home tommorrow, so look out for her.

First of all, I saw the Hab1.com poster. It was great. We took some pics with it. I didn't bring a camera, but I'll make sure those who did will post them on the 'Net. I had to leave before grad, wich would have been the time to talk to a manager about displaying it. :-( I did pick out a good place, though, in the glass above Endevour Mission Control facing the cafeteria. It's where everyone can see it, but nobody can mess with it. I left the poster with Hillary. She knows very important camp people who would be able to get things done. If she isn't able to, she goes to camp around four times each year, so she can always bring it back if she ends up having to take it home. She's pretty reliable, so I'm not worried.

Anyway, more about our visit to camp later.

hello,
my name is lauren and i recntly came home from Advanced for my third time. I heard about the 24 hour mission there however i was kinda confused about how it would work. i mean do we rotate sleeping in the orbiter or just not sleep and what about eating and stuff like that. i figured that since that used to do it that way maybe an older person can tell me about what they did when they had done it. because the more information that i have the more likly that i can persuade my parents to let me go.

Moderator: Welcome to the HabForum, Lauren! If you could though, we'd appreciate it if you could not use such a large avatar...and this post probably belongs in the "24 hour EDMs... they're back!!!" thread. If you could copy and paste it in there, it would be appreciated (and it would increase the odds of getting an answer).

Hey guys! this is Jon S. from MA (yea, the new guy). Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that i had a BLAST (no pun intended) at X-Mas camp. This was my first time at Camp and it was awsome. Not only did we get to do some really kool things, but it was also REALLY funny (anything ranging from Hillary's constant screams, the "Russian Space Station", Beer on Mars, ERS (or IRS Canadian style) and Ian's odd telephone conversations at night). Anyways, it was really fun, but now i want to see some pics. Whenever you can, please post a site here where i can see them!

For any of you who have pics, let me remind you about Space Addict's offer of free image hosting at spacecamp.ibnerd.net.

Anyway, this past trip was the most fun I've ever had at camp. Our group was great and (with the exception of a bit on the day before the new year) we had a perfect mix of silliness and seriousness.

It didn't snow :(, but there was frost. I mistook it for snow in the morning and Ian corrected me. As for that Vodka, I don't know who forgot to pack it and I thought it arrogant that they wouldn't send up a Progress vehicle to restock us.

Arlissa (named for an Antarctic research station) wouldn't tell us her first name and we never did find that lovin' feelin' she lost. She was easy to torment by "counting off" or gobbling like a turkey.

This is the first time I'd had her or Jason as a counselor. McGruff (Jason) was cool, but I never did get to say goodbye, he was cooped up in the Mariott with his new wife from the afternoon of Jan. 1 until after I left. I won't comment further...

Crispy in Station was cool bringing her CDs in, but she wouldn't let us play the South Park soundtrack or a certain Jimmy Buffet song :(. Area 51 was awesome, Team Hab One was the best Area 51 team I'd ever been on and we won.

Alpha MOCR/Shark Bait lost Space Bowl because they introduced a new Jeopardy style and we forgot to phrase some of our answers as questions :( :(.

Jinx (Jessie), a counselor who you may know, was doing a study this week about how astronauts deal with stress and inter- and intra- personal relationships. It was tilted The Association between the Effects of Stressors and Measures of Performance within Long Duration Spaceflight. Von Braun (our team) was the variable group, recieving extra training that Von T (Kristen (username: Mott)'s team) didn't. The results could very likely be published and could show NASA and the Russians how important psychology is when selecting astronauts for long-duration spaceflight.

So, that's what happened. More interesting details to follow.

And let's not forget about McGruff's new arm pull-in thing. It's hard to explain, but you'll see it in the pics which I hope people will be posting soon.

Camp has a way of doing that. I'm glad you all had so much fun.... I wish I could have been there with you. Anybody have any stories from the EDMs? You have to feed the space camp story, hungry beast that lives within me lol.

::sigh:: edm man that rocked, i think the most amusing part was when benji decided to eat poop in front of the camera and got sick and then locked himself in the bathroom. so i had to do not only allthe comanders checklist for a couple minutes but the piolts too so i had to keep on switching chairs

though i also was given a migraine on the station so they just randomly decided to duct tape me to the floor

Yes, I ate the solid waste. Then I threw up. Then I had diareha. I closed the door to the john and it locked on me. Nobody would open it, so I had to slip under, right past some nails that were sticking out. Then, Hillary came entered the **it fest from her EVA and she had diarhea, too. She was siiting in the john with the door closed and her space suit thing was around her ankles. She was wearing shorts, but you couldn't tell. It was hilarous. Pictures were snapped, so someone has to post them. TTFN!

Nice parenthesis use there Benji. wow. MY team, ehh? Just kidding, Von T was an awesome team. We were just so much cooler than Von B. Well maybe not. But we still had a poo load of fun. Brent and Boost were the coolest couselors .. but anywho, I guess I can tell you my exciting EDM story...

So, during ascent I was pilot and this kid 'Mav' was commander. And for breakfast all the kid had was 4 cartons of whole milk. And during take off he started feeling sick. He said his arm hurt and his chest hurt, and so naturally I start to worry that he's going to throw up or something. Finally he passes out onto the middle panel, and I start to freak out. So I get up out of my seat and start yelling down for the couselor, until I realize that he's just laughing from middeck, and Mav was just told to fake a heart attack during take off. He was fine, he was just acting. I had been had... He was a really good actor. It was awesome. But then I was told I broke my leg because I got up during launch.

oooo, EDM stories...where to begin...

well, for anyone on the orbiter at first, of course you remember the many health issues we had during takeoff, then me forgetting we were in 0 G. lol, anyways, since the morphine was jsut "floating" around, me and Jesse were stabbed and injected, making us EXTREMELY goofy. god that was fun. too bad Jesse didnt actually go out the hatch...

then, on Station, all the time i was just sittin around doin nothing, until we had a meteor shower warning. As the other people were doin checklists, Krispy told me to have a heart attack in the Columbus Module after we evacuated....to bad i forgot to remind the crew to bring meds. I was "unconcious" the entire time...not to mention MOCR had to evacuate due to a hurricane. Lol, anyways, when we returned to the Station, EVERYTHING WAS EVERYWHERE. apparently, during the meteor shower, all the drawers and closets opened, spilling all its contents to the floor....and ceiling....and walls. GOD that was a pain to pick everything up.

after losing communication and fixing that over the cameras (did Hillary look extrememly mad or was that just me), then solving the leak in the Station (we all had the Bends), we all had a safe mission.

I had soooo much fun....I am already thinkin about next X-Mas camp...

No, I don't think Hillary was very thrilled about that.
