ISS problems

Post by ApolloXI »

Right now at September 30 2003 , 18:09:49 CST NASA has said they have losed commuations with ISS. A couple of days ago they had what appeared to be a fire but it turned out to be a false reading. Ground control turned that lab off and the astronuats looked at the lab rack and it showed no signs of fire. They turned it back on and nothing seemed out of order.

Hopefully this will not end up being a painful irony as I just read an article this morning at CNN entitled, NASA: ISS not 'accident' about to happen.

*hopes*

From the people that brought you "Damage from foam is a matinence problem, not a saftey-of-flight issue"...

These guys need to be on top of their game. A big enough slip and NASA is out of business.

This is bad especially since Sean O'keefe was quoted on space.com this morning as saying the ISS can run perfectly fine with a reduced crew with no problems.

I think it can run alright with a small crew, but these guys can't slip up. Anything they can do to simplify things would be great. Everything needs to be triple-checked by both sides, etc. I'll be happy when we get a real crew up there again, but they still need to be careful. I dunno what the average lifespan of a government agency is, but NASA needs to do all it can for itself.

Well NASA will be doing something rather bold in february. Its planned for the next ISS crew to do an EVA but they will be sending both people out which means noone will be inside to monitor the eVA and station like normal.

No problem

They had lost contact for about a hour. As we all know every mission is not flawless. One thing they wanted to do was turn on a fire decter that they turned off before the mishap. Plus whos knows how long the modules up there can last without each other. Columbia's disater stopped compents from going up, even though it was used mainly for science.

NASA has now pushed beck the expected return to flight date till September from the already puched back July 15th time frame.I'd read they might in a news story yesterday but today on the radio i heard they had. They vited needing more time to develop repair techniques as well as inspections of the shuttle nose caps which are also made of RCC atleast in the story yesterday thats what they said they didnt give any detail in the one i heard tonight.
