Rain

Post by stargazer0105 »

Oh man! I have never seen so much rain in my life!! Today Indianapolis broke a record for the most rainfall in a 24-hour period. The record was from Sept. 4, 1895 and was like 6.8 inches or something. Has anyone else had a lot of rain lately?

Well, as is usual for this season, it is generally partly cloudy during the day (I can't tell you about the mornings) with light rain in the afternoon followed by thunderstorms. Oh, and triple digit temps are not uncommon. When I play hockey, I often sweat more on the way from the rink to the car than I do during the games. After leaving the rink on Sunday, the car said it was 107 outside and it was even hotter inside the car. I've actually tried frying an egg on the asphalt.

Even if it did I still wouldn't eat it. It would still be cool though. The official amount of rain for Indy was 7.2 inches, but there were some areas that had as much as 9.8. Thank goodness it wasn't snow. I've enjoyed my day off of school(would this be called a flood day instead of a snow day?), but since we'll probably have to make it up I guess it wouldn't have been too bad to go. The water is receding finally, but our county is being called a disaster zone. I guess 200 people from my town had to be evacuated from their homes yesterday. Anyway, the average amount of precipitation for Sept. around here is 2.88 inches. I guess we took care of that right away. Hopefully, I'll never see rain like this again!

I think there have been 2 deaths that they're aware of right now, but there could be more later on. Thankfully, we live on high ground so we didn't have too much trouble. We had a little water in the basement though. Luckily, it didn't do any damage.

Regarding the egg: No, it didn't work. The day I tried it, it was actually much cooler outside than it felt like. I thought about trying it again now, since it's been much hotter, but I just haven't had the time.

We are in a drought and a heat wave. It has rained only once or twice in the whole month of August. It was 30C today which is 10 degrees C above the average for this time of year.
