At ASA noone seems to care if you stay up late. At AC they didnt care as long as they couldnt hear you. If they heard you atleast when i went theyd come in turn on the light and make you stand at attention infront of your bed till they decided youd stood their long enough. It wasnt that they were being mean really they were just trying to give it a military feal.

I think your right about Mach 1and 2s still doing the drill competition but we didnt do it and if you are going sometime soon get a bed away from the wall because you wont have to pull it out to make your bed because thats a pain in the butt!!

Well atleast at AS there is ussualy an empty bunk you can take a pillow from and atleast make it twisce as thick. Just lock it in your locker to keep other people from using it.

My personal experiences:
First: I always check every bunk to see if any of them have two matresses. If so, I take the extra matress and stick it in the bunk i want. Also, always take extra linens when you get them. If you normally like sleeping with lots of pillows, take a bunch of pillow covers and stuff them with random things (clothes, towels, Camp kiddies, etc). And this year, I duct taped my linens to the bed. Mine always slide off my bed, so I decided to keep them there for good.

It also helps if you fold the supplied pillow in half. Those of you who have been to AC know what im talking about. Ive found that that makes it decent enough to sleep on.

just ask your counselor for a Blanket
Duh, just ask your counselor for another blanket if you are cold. I would advise everyone to bring a pillow and a towel from home. If you are going to AC, then I would suggest that you bring your own BDU's (camo) also.
May your landings equal your take-offs.
If you dont have your own BDUs to bring, safety pins are a good idea. Many of the BDU pants that they have lack the button, and a safety pin helps keep them up to prevent embarasing displays and changing of callsigns.

If you're going to AC, I certainly suggest, as they said above, bringing your own pillow, blanket and towel. Just make sure that you will have either room in your locker or in a bag under your bed for your pillow and blanket, to ensure points won't be taken off from Bay Inspection.
And screw what the councilers say, it is SO much easier to just sleep on top of your sheets and smooth out your bed in the morning rather than sleep in it and make it up in the morning, especially if you want time to get yourself looking nice. (I may be the only one who wears make-up at AC, but there are CONSTANT photo-ops, and I do NOT want to be the ugly one in the pictures, and spf in ones foundation helps prevent sunburn. Also, is v. funny to have pictures of a group standing at attention with one member with ribbons and flowers in her hair...)
Also, take a notebook with you, preferably one that will fit in your flightsuit/BDU pockets. There is not nearly enough room in your manuals to take notes for flights.
Bring a sewing kit as well, just one of those pocket-sized things from a hotel with 5 needles already threaded. You'll be the most popular person there.

Advice from a soldier
In Advanced Individual Training (my actual job training school after Basic) I used to sleep on top of the sheets as well, and it passed daily inspection by the drill sergeants.
As for notebooks, buy one of those waterresistent notepads- they are great. Every military clothing and sales store/PX on an Army post should have one, I do not know about military surplus.
Go to Brigade Quartermasters (www.actiongear.com) and search for
STORMSAF™ WATERPROOF TACTICAL ALL-WEATHER PAPER TABLET, 3''X 5'', OD . They also sell camouflage kits
Also get a decent pair of gloves. You will need it for Escape and Evasion.

For sure! I went during the heat of the summer and it was crazy. I remember them checking every corner on our first night to see if we did it right... Luckier the rooms down at AC are warmer than at the hab so it was possible to sleep on top of the sheets. I really had a hard time with the lack of locker space though lol.

the cold wasn't to much of a problem for me when i was there [maybe I'm just a north dakotan]; the worst living-space issues i remember having was an incessantly flatulent roommate & and a massive{inch deep} layer of overflowed toilet water on the last night in the showers......
