What was your favorite space program?
Of all of the programs (Mercury,Gemini, Apollo, STS) what was your favorite? I personally like Apollo the best i think! STS runs a close second

Its hard for me to pick just one favorite. I've grown up with the shuttle program and of course are probably most familiar with it but being a space history buff i like them all. Mercury was such a pioneering program and their were so many unknowns in those days. We didnt even know if an astronaut could survive in space and those astronauts weretaking a huge chance with those early missiles that had been designed for nuclear warheads. The n Gemini we acomplished so much in 10 flights. In only a few years and 10 flights we proved every technique needed to go to the moon. Testing unproven and untried technology the Gemini crews acomplished so much and prepared us for Apollo. Then Apollo everything we had worked for came together and at the same time we got 2 verry big wake up calls that reminded us that this is the most dangerous business in the world. On 6 seperate missions we saw men walk on the face of another world and even if for a short time it helped bring the world together to watch one of the greatest moments in history. Thats why i cant pick just one.

I'm torn between Gemini and Apollo. Gemini did so much in so little time and it's when the US passed the USSR in the space race. Apollo walked on the moon. I think both are my favorite. Even thou I'm Canadian I think I care more about the US space programs. The US has done so much for space technology. Canada is slowly making progress though. We made the Canadarm and I got to go on the one at space camp during our 1 hour mission.

I wish i could have seen it when it happened too. But in 1989 for the 20th anniversary they rebroadcast the launch and the moon walk on tv on the days they happened at the exact times they happened. It was so cool.

i love to hear my dad tell me about that era. he was just a boy during apollo 11 but he remembers exactly where he was when it happened (Zoders Inn in Gatlinburg TN... they were the only hotel in town with color TV!!). I really wish that we were making as much progress in space today as we did back then. if we had continued at the same pace that we had back then ("Longer strides," as Kennedy put it), who knows were we'd be today!!

my favorite is the program that never happened, the X-20 Dynasoar. imagine having a Space Shuttle type winged spacecraft instead of the Mercury launching our first astronauts. Well, it almost happened!

the X-20, coupled with the MOL, would have made for some interesting missions in the 1960s and 70s!

The Apollo missions were my favorite for sure. They went to the moon...someplace I would love to go to. People think I'm crazy when I tell them that I want to go to the moon someday.
