The Rubber Room at LC39-A
Apparently there is a safe room under the pad at Launch Complex 39-A which was accessed by a 200-foot-long slide partially inside the mobile launch platform. I'd never heard about it before, but my new favorite space historian Amy Shira Teitel has the details.
Ad astra per aspera.

I cannot remember where I heard about this before. It was a long time ago - in a documentary perhaps? On a KSC tour? Either way, it wasn't in nearly as much detail as this article. Great find, Benji!

Air & Space Smithsonian did a article in the June/July 2013 on the rubber room on page 70 & 71. Shows a excellent pictures of the room. I did not know that it existed till looking at the article.
