40 years ago this morning 3 astronauts embarked on what president Kennedy dscribed as the most dangerous and hazardous undertaking in human history. Apollo 11 with its vetran crew of Neil Armostrong, Edwin "Buzz" aldrin, and Michael Collins lifted off from launch pad 39A at the Kennedy space center on their way to the first lunar landing. Now After 40 years NASA wants to go back to the moon. As we prepare for the future lets not forget the past and the courage and bravery it took to do that first mission. We sometimes take space flight for granted now but this mission was done with primitive computers by todays standards, with slide rules and with manual star sightings to align the navigation platform. It was flown in a spacecraft barely big enough for the three crew and equipment but limited by telifting capacity of the rocket. It was done with a lander whos skin was so thin you could easily put a fist through it. This was not an easy task but it was done "For all Mankind."
