Lance Bass is really going to Space?!

Post by Vincent »

Space.com is reporting that Russia is now holding a seat for a launch to the ISS in October for N'Sync member and Space Camp alumnus Lance Bass.

Provided someone can cough up the $20 million dollars for the trip, and Mr. Bass can find time in his schedule to complete his training, this looks like a fairly done deal. Russia badly needs the cash, so I guess their willing to let him go, despite previous comments indicating the contrary.

As for my own position on this, well...he has been to Space Camp, so I guess it could be worse. This of course is a softening of my previous stance on the matter...Since they're not going to be sending me up any time soon, I guess I don't care that much!

Further, if they smart, Space Camp will take advantage of the situation if he does indeed go up...they could plaster "SPACE CAMP ALUM IN SPACE" anywhere and everywhere they possibly can, etc. It'd make for good PR, at the very least. And the fact that he's famous already couldn't hurt, either...

Well he would be the first space camper to make it into space. That would be kind of cool.

Yeah...it would be kinda cool....it's just a shame that out of all the space camp graduates, he'd be one of the few who have gone into space...

Actually he wouldnt be one of a few he would be the only one so far. Although Christa Mcaulife did visit space camp prior to the challenger mission she died on and did do some of the space camp stuff while she was their. fcourse she didnt quite make it to space.

Well its looking more and more like Lance Bass will be going to space. I was just flipping through channels and saw on CNN headline news He's been training for the last 6 weeks. Also MTV will be airing a series of specials showing his training, launch, mission, and return to earth complete with him doing a home coming concert at the end of the flight. I came in during the story so i didnt catch it all but it looks like he will be going> Atleast someone from space camp will make it to space soon even if he is from nstink.

I think this is just a disgusting publisity scam whether or not he goes. Both nasa and n'stink needed the publisity, but this is just too low for me!
I have been to space camp four times and i hope to go to adult camp when i am over 21.

Actually NASA doesnt have a whole lot to fdo with it. Just like the last 2 space tourist this will be a russian Soyuz capsule that he will launch and land in. And the 20 million he is paying willn go to the russian company. I agree its a big publicity stunt but ill probab;ly still watch the stuff on MTV. Even today you dont get many good looks inside the russian training and space program.

I have to agree. It seems that these days if you have the cash you can do anything. But you must admit if you were given the chance to go up we all would.

Sorry Marcus you know I was only kidding :D

Seriously though my dream has always been to put myself into space. As a kid I dreamed of building my own homemade capsule and launching myself to the moon. I've grown up now but I think the dream is just as real. Through the hobby of experimental rocketry we are making progress towards amateur manned space flight... maybe I'll be the first, you never know.

Well as much as i hate to reopen the topic on Lance Bass from Nstink i feel i must based on a news article on space.com. Aparently NASA is now saying that if Russia confirms his flight status on the Soyuz Crew that NASA is compared to complete his training for the mission to the ISS. This seems like a turn around from NASA's previouas stance on Space Tourist. Looks like NASA wants the publicity this flight will bring even more than Russia Does. However the Soyuz Flight that may carry him into space has been pushed back 6 days till October 28th. That combined with a 10 day delay in the next progress flight will force NASA to delay Endeavours flight to the ISS by atleast a week.
