STS-117

Re: All Systems Go!
I'd love to make the attempt since I live in Orlando. Alas, I must work tomorrow and by the time I get out traffic will be hellish. Maybe if there's a slight delay I can make it over to the coast.JennieM wrote:Anyone going to try to go see the launch?

I haven't seen one from the coast since STS-26. Sad really, considering where I live but... there ya go.

I wish...hopefully at some point in my life I will get to see a shuttle launch.
I was visiting Embry Riddle down in Florida back in April 1998, when I discovered that there was a shuttle launch supposed to happen on the 16th. Instead of driving back north and heading home, my mother said that we could drive the 30 minutes south and see if we could get a view. Of course, the launch was delayed a day, so at least I got to see some of Kennedy before we began that long drive home.

I have everyone at work addicted to NASA TV on launch days. We do not get anything done. Too bad the launch is an hour and a half after work ends. I do not have internet or TV at home so I shall picture the launch in my head.
Now, what are those green glow sticks on mid-deck?
How many days until STS-118? I should start a count-down.

Woohoo! My husband was in Daytona on business, so I met up with him there and then we drove down to see the launch. Our first launch "in person!" It was amazing!!! We didn't have tickets for the Causeway, so we saw it from Titusville. It took about 30 seconds from the time we saw the shuttle until we heard the engines. AWESOME!!! I'm trying to upload pics, but the computer is rather slow. Hopefully I can get a couple up tonight and the rest tomorrow.

I bet the launch was gorgeous! I saw the last launch in December and lucked out by getting access to the Banana Creek viewing area at the Saturn V building. As beautiful as the night launch was then, I can only imagine the launch at dusk. I purposely stayed at work an extra couple of hours just to watch it because I don't get NASA TV at my apartment and our internet has been touch and go lately. A group of us went in to one of the manager's offices and had it up on the wall via projector with the volume turned all the way up.

And, for any other Browncoats, this shuttle mission is taking a copy of Firefly and Serenity up to the ISS thanks to astronaut Steve "Swanny" Swanson.

I'll have to check with my brother. I borrowed his camera. All I know is that it's a Cannon film camera with, what I like to call, a "stalker lens."SpaceCanada wrote:Great photos!
It looks like you had a nice SLR-type camera to take the photos with too. May I ask what settings you used so I can use similar ones for my trip to STS-118?
gt0163c, thanks for sharing the pics! They're awesome!
Hotdog, you're as sweet as ever.
For all of those bugging me at camp for not watching Firefly I bought the DVDs this week and I watched it in the past 48 hours. I am going to wait a few weeks until the collector's edition of the movie comes out to see it.

I do love the series but the thing that bugs me the most is it makes me home sick for the deserts of the west.Lysithea wrote:Chris - you're gonna love Firefly!
