How It All Started

Post by orion8 »

How did everything get here?

This is one that was hotly contested at space camp. mostly everyone believed in creation, but some in the big bang(we had one atheist). vonT taught us the big bang theory, or as he called it, "Genesis" then afterward i remember everyone on my team saying how ridiculous he was. what do you think??

I personally believe in Creation but their are plenty of people who dont. I don't like to argue the point because noone can ever seem to agree on it.

Well the first chapter of the Bible defines one day when God said "Let there be light and there was light and God saw that the light was good. And he separated the light from the darkness and called the light day and the darkness night and the evening and the morning were the first day"

That, to me, defines the first day as 1 day, a cycle of 1 day and 1 night...not billions of years. The evidence against billions of years has been refuted to many times for me to believe it anymore. And..happening to sorta more or less not so much like math but loving statistics the odds against the big bang theory and our "evolutionary development" make me think that its easier, not to mention more logical, to believe that God created it...it takes less mind work and it does have some proof that hasn't been destroyed as a farce like evolutions proof.

Wow, now I didn't expect a topic like this here :)

Actually, I'm very much intune with a lot of the theories out there. I read a lot of physics topics and how it relates to the creation of the universe. I support the science end of it because it can be measured. The science people don't have the arrogance that I see in the religious community. Science is asking the question "Why" and trying to figure it out, where as some in the religious camp declare the question already answered. And that doesn't sit well with me.

I don't have a religion so I don't know the bible, but I would say that the Bible holds the teachings of a man and his beliefs and is written to tell us a story. Science is trying to tell us much more than a story.

At least, that's how I see it =)

And think about this: The Christain Bible was written by Jesus's friends. You know how your friends always mess up your stories? "And then he walked on water.""He didn't walk on water, you bonehead, you were drunk. It was a puddle."

I'm only kidding, don't take offense to what I just said. I'm sure the Apostles (is that who wrote it? I'm Jewish, I dunno) were very trustworthy.

Well i'm not going to try to argue religion verses creation but i can give some info on who wrote the bible. The 4 gosphels are atributed to disciples of Jesus but the earliest was written 40 years after Jesus death and some were written much later so while its a possibility they were written by his apostles its not a certainty. It is fairly well established however that Paul of Tarsus a converted jew wrote the later books known as the epistles with the exception of revelations which is atributed to John. The book of acts is also atributed to an apostle but i cant think of who off the top of my head. And acts is most likely more acrate then some because its the earliest of the books of the new testament.

fair enough.... I am kinda split down the middle, really i just have my own religion that encompases both God and the big bang theory and it makes me happy so i suppose thats all that really matters.
