Atlantis is going up on August 28 at 4:04 EDT. I'll watch it right when I get home from my first day of 6th grade.

Assuming my roomate and I have managed to obtain a tv i'll have to watch that when i get out of class... I suppose i could just watch it on my computer since thats what i usually do anyway. I'd still like to watch it in without that few second lag though...

I saw on a news confrence last night that if 115 goes off without a hitch and the foam shedding continues to be so minimal that 116 in december will return NASA to night launch operations which will open up more windows each year for launches as well.

By the way the launch date is actually the 27th at 4:30 est they noved it up a day. CNN will cover it as always i'm sure for those who arent lucky enough to get NASA tv or whos internet connection is too slow to watch it on the net.

I saw that announcement for the changed date and cringed... no internet or TV at home means I will likely miss the launch... again... Maybe I will make a visit to my grandparents that day so I can watch CNN.

Very easily actually... I get my internet fix at work. At home I do so many crafts, read loads of books, go outside, teach Brownies, teach swimming, cook/bake, housework, etc. There is always something to do!

We watch TV when we visit my grandparents though - that's a treat for us! Although, the ads are horrible... so annoying! I don't miss it at all.

I don't have a tv in my room here at school and i honestly dont really miss it much. There are a few shows that i like to watch (mythbusters and whatnot) but i'm not having any trouble living without them. I kind of miss the news but there seems to be no shortage of the state press on campus so I guess i'll be good on that front too!

It will take eight days to prepare the shuttle for launch once it is rolled back out to the pad, and they have to launch before 07 September (I think) so they do not conflict with a Russian capsule delivering new crew in mid-September.

Darn hurricanes... and I hear bad news about this one, Ernesto I think they named it.

NASa has announced that they will attempt to launch Atlantis wednesday at 12:39 est. There are also 2 oppurtunities on thursday for launch. They have also extended the window to the 8th and pushed back the soyuz launch to the 18th.

Time to go scrub the pots. We may get a launch tomorrow.

Hmmm... I should try making the Space (Lift-Off) Beans they make in mission control for every shuttle launch. It's a tradition that apparently goes way back. See below:

When NASA's Launch Control at the Kennedy Space Center gets ready to
send something into space, managers break out the... beans?

The tradition dates back to the first shuttle mission. As the crew was
preparing for launch, staffers brought in covered dishes to share
during the long hours of work. For the historic first launch on April
12, 1981, NASA test director Norm Carlson brought in 2 gallons of beans
in a Crock Pot, and some corn bread. That morning, Columbia went up,
and the elated and famished launch crew devoured the beans and bread.

Carlson brought back the beans and corn bread for the second mission,
on Nov. 12, 1981, this time loading two pots. They quickly vanished as
well. The beans kept coming launch after launch. Carlson finally
switched to an 18-quart cooker, setting it up on the center's fourth
floor, one floor up from the launch room. "Beans are go," written on a
banner, meant the mission was on its way and the crew could relax. Over
the years, more cookers were added, and after Carlson retired in 1995,
the job of supplying beans fell to representatives of the launch team
who contract with food suppliers to the Kennedy Space Center.

These days, 12 cookers generate some 60 gallons of beans at every
launch.

***Norm Carlson's Space Beans Recipe***
6 pounds great white northern dried beans
10 pounds ham cut into cubes, plus ham bones
3 pounds chopped onions
2 stalks celery
1/2 shaker lemon pepper
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke
Cover with water in a 5-quart cooker and cook at least 12 hours.

Drats, I'll miss it because I have a training session for work (at the pool) that day. Hopefully there will be a TV nearby. Otherwise, I will convince everyone that our training should take place in the hot tub, with TV.
