Short version:

Disco docks with ISS. 3 person ISS with a not so reliable oxygen supply system now has to support 9 people. Atlantis launches one month later, Disco is remote piloted into the Pacific to make room for Atlantis. Atlantis docks with it's 4 person crew, "rescues" the Disco crew, and Atlanis has to land with an unprecideted crew of 13.

Long Version:
The end of the Shuttle program and manned US spaceflight for a LONG time.

We had a term for something like this in the Army... the clean version is called "Charlie Foxtrot."

I hope news is worng

Post by ApolloXI »

Today on a local news program here in Melbourne, Fl. they said the KSC will be the prime landing location for the orbiter. They also said that if there is damage to the orbiter they would in White Sands, I hope they are worng because as you know White Sands is not a good place for the orbiter to land becuase the sand gets in everything, which means a orbiter will have to be taken off the flight line until the damage AND the sand is cleaned up.

DERRICK: THIS IS SOMETHING WE HAVEN'T SEEN FOR A WHILE... A SPACE SHUTTLE BEING ROLLED OUT BEFORE A MISSION.
YESTERDAY, THE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY WAS MOVED TO AN ASSEMBLY BUILDING WHERE IT WILL BE ATTACHED TO TWIN ROCKETS AND AN EXTERNAL FUEL TANK. DISCOVERY IS SCHEDULED TO BE LAUNCHED IN MAY.
IT WILL BE THE FIRST SHUTTLE MISSION SINCE THE COLUMBIA SHUTTLE DISASTER MORE THAN TWO YEARS AGO.
There's the Transcript from it yesterday's Channel One segment about the shuttle. Short, but cool all the same.

That is pretty cool. However, if it was anything like my old high school about four people actually watched it and 3 of them had no idea what was going on.

We have to watch it, the teachers make us take notes and give us a quiz at the end of the week. I happen to like channel one, very informative.

haha channel one. we had to watch that back in jr. high. It sometimes was kinda interesting, but it seemed overcommercialized.

I really hope it's still launching mid-May... I am in college so I'm out by then, and I've got family down there I was going to stay with. So I was planning on going! But I have to be back by June 1, 'cause that's when summer school starts, and if it gets pushed back too much...

Here are some updates this post...

The launch has been delayed to 22 May 2005. (old news)

Eileen Collins was recently featured in the Disco motion-bese simulator (at JSC) on 60 minutes:
