Hidden Figures

Post by SpaceCanada »

Read the book: it is great!

Watch the movie: it is beautiful, inspiring, strong, powerful, and incredible. All of you should watch it. The cinema we went to gave it a standing ovation. There aren't many other words to say, just watch it and admire these women and the other administrators that were part of the change. The movie was exceptionally well done.

If the film came to the island where I live, it is probably playing in most cinemas across North America. Watch it.

I'll admit I had my doubts about this movie, as I do with any "realistic" space movie that comes out. But so far, all of my space buddies who have seen it have raved about it. So I will be checking it out this week.

Did both and agree with you wholeheartedly. I will be adding the BluRay to my collection when available.

Looks like the Best Buy exclusive of Hidden Figures comes with an offer for the e-book of Hidden Figures as well. Looks like a decent deal, $19.99 for Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD + UltraViolet and the e-book offer.

We don't have that offer here (Canada), though it sounds excellent. Aside: does anyone actually use UltraViolet? UV digital copies don't work (easily) on any of my devices (all Apple).

I am going I pick up my copy this afternoon! I found the 4K blu ray + regular blu ray + DVD + HD digital copy for $24.96 CAD.

I didn’t get to the theaters to see it, so I’ll nab it on Netflix when they eventually have it. Other than here and the CollectSpace forum, I haven’t read much about it. I don’t think a single co-worker or local friend of mine saw it as I don’t recall overhearing anyone discussing the film.

I'm surprised by that! It was HUGE here within my circle of friends and family. Girl Guides across the country went to see it too as it tied in so well with our STEM programming. Inspiring movies/stories about math are challenging to find. Some of my friends (not otherwise interested in space) lobbied their local smaller cinemas to get the film so they could watch it - and were successful. Many people I know went to see it twice in cinemas!

It's available on digital copy now -- and has been for a while. (I don't know about Netflix specifically.) It's worth every cent of two cinema tickets and the blu ray price. Enjoy!

Yeah, I have a bunch of local friends and coworkers who saw and loved the movie.
Part of that could be that the aunt and uncle of the girl who plays Lidya Jewett (played young Katherine Coleman) are friends of mine and also that most of my coworkers have spend time in the Lockheed Martin Marietta wind tunnel where the wind tunnel scenes were filmed (*Spoiler Alert* it's nowhere near close to a super sonic tunnel). So lots of connections to the film. Plus, space and math and strong women!
