Anyone Having Trouble Logging In?

Post by Vincent »

LB206 has told me that he's had some trouble logging in. Though statistically, he probably just needs to take some more care and effort when typing (and I really, really hope that is the cause), I would be remiss if I didn't ask everyone if they can log in okay.

Granted, I know this is a bit flawed, as if you can't log in, you can't post that you're having trouble...but LB206 has been able to log in eventually...

If you can't post any troubles here, you can always shoot an email over to [email protected] and let me know.

Thanks.

Well i'm pretty sure its not because i'm not being careful when typing because ussualy when that happens it tewlls you. When i have trouble it doesnt say anything the log in screen just resets itself and the spaces for user name and password go blank.

It warns you, but then quickly goes to a blank box again where there isn't anything printed, so it is possible that you simply didn't see the error message before it brought you back to a clean login screen...It's possible, anyway...

Well you could be right but i dont think thats what it is. I ussualy watch the screen expecting it to most likely go blank and i have seen it go from the error message to blank screen before. 99 percent of the time their is no message at all it just goes blank.

Well, as it turns out, this does seem to be a real problem, and two users here have been experiencing troubles logging in.

I do believe this is a very limited issue that few users will experience, but it is important to contact me if you have been having trouble logging in, and you are indeed certain that it isn't your fault.

While fixing it so that it doesn't occur again may take some doing, I believe that fixing it on an individual basis will be quite possible.

Well to answer the questions you asked in your email. I use AOL 7.0 and 6.0 depending on the computer. The computer that seems to habve the problems is the one with 7.0 on it. So the browser i use is the one AOL uses i believe its Internet explorer but i'm not sure what version.

Also one problem ive had with the 6.0 computer that is annoying but isnt stopping me from using the forum. When ever i go to the forum the initial forum page still list the info on which topics have posts from last april. It doesnt show anything later than april about the time that the new forum came into being. Its more annoying than anything and i guess ive gotten use to it but it doesnt allow me to see which sections have new posts without going into them and looking. And when i do go in i ussualy have to hit refresh to see which ones have any new topics or posts.

well i've never had any problems logging in (i am logged in automatically each visit) but Erin had some trouble a few nights ago - there were like 12 people on and by periodically checking the "who's online" screen i noticed that there were several people "Logging In" for a really long time; i assume they were having trouble. anyway i've never had any problems... i use Netscape 6 in case youre interested :D

Yes...I seem to have more-or-less solved Erin's problems...if LB206 uses AOL as well, that's who I'm going to blame for all of this!

...all of this aside, I do advise anyone with a modicum of computer knowledge to not use AOL, as it's (for lack of a better term) evil. However, I highly recommend the service if you don't really know much about computer or the internet...despite its evilness!

Well, what I had Erin try was to, while on AOl, open up IE and try logging into the HabForum directly from IE.

...AOL does use IE as its web browser, but it seems to do other strange stuff on its own...

So you should see if that works for you...

Wel, I feel fairly safe to say that I official blame AOL for these troubles.

...not that I could begin to figure out exactly why though...

Well, near as I can tell, it doesn't affect everyone...just some

I tried to access the forum from AOL and, while I had a little trouble, was able to log in fairly quickly, so the problem seems to be...odd.
