New user problems

Post by Space Nerd »

I cant help but notice that lately we have an increasing number of users signing up simply to promote thier websites... most of which have absolutly nothing to do with themselves or anything to do with camp in general. I was just wondering if anybody had any ideas on the insurgence of illegitimate users?

I've been trying to delete the accounts as quickly as the one person creates them, but sometimes a few hours past.

Please just ignore them, and don't click on the links!

...I need to catch him in the act and then hopefully a longer term solution can be worked out.

...some people...

Perhaps just having this thread will scare the spammer off. Though thats not really likely. Nonetheless i say good luck Vincent! :D

Well as I guessed, sadly, this thread didnt scare mr. spam man away. So next in the line of home remedies for curing spamming is Megan's theory that we can get rid of them/him/her by using the old giant trick of grinding thier bones for bread.

So, despite efforts to stop this, it's still an issue.

I thought I had it fixed a week ago, but alas, I didn't.

It's not an easy thing per se to find the culprit when anyone, anywhere can come here.

But I'm going to step up efforts.

Previously, I was hoping to catch the villan in the act. But I can't be here all the time, so this is not even close to the best method.

I will take measures to monitor who visits the forum 24/7 until I am able to block the person from coming here.

does PHPBB not have a plugin that will let you record all IP addresses who visit the boards?

I'm impressed. I'm far to lazy to ever bother with making something I could possibly find. lol.
