Stearman PT 17 Biplane Information Needed

What Space Camp forum would be complete without a place to talk about one of the best/worst movies of all time, SpaceCamp, as well as all Space Camp references in pop culture.

Stearman PT 17 Biplane Information Needed

Post by Richasi »

While I was off in Europe I received an email for any information regarding the Stearman PT 17 Biplane seen in the opening scenes of the movie.

Does anyone know anything about that particular plane and where it might be today? Any information would be appreciated. I'll foward it on to the one who emailed.

Thanks :)

Well i can tell you that the official designation of the Stearman is the Stearman N2-S3 trainer that might help you find more information. I don't know where the actual plane from the movie is but they are quite common in museums all over the place. They are also frequently in air shows. Their is a demonstration group called the Red Barron Stearman squadron that tours the US doing their program with stearmans. Up till the early part of World War 2 they were the main trainer for the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. Shortly after the start of the war they were replaced with the T-3 Texan.

No, no...that's just good editing!

Set one camera up facing the USSRC...then make a cut where they filmed in some field with the camera's back to the USSRC...add some people and vehicles around the landing site...

...she really would have been landing on the highway!
