The Goldbergs

What Space Camp forum would be complete without a place to talk about one of the best/worst movies of all time, SpaceCamp, as well as all Space Camp references in pop culture.

The Goldbergs

Post by majtom7 »

Anyone else watching tonight's episode, I.e., Adam is trying to get his dad to send him to Space Camp (after seeing the movie). :)

Makes sense as that was a HUGE thing in popular culture in the 80s. I remember plenty of kids I was in school with who all dreamed of getting to go. None of them did, of course.

The movie somewhat inspired me to go to camp. I remember seeing it in theaters in 86. Was already a huge space buff but didn't realise the camp was a real place and even if it was the kids in the movie were a lot older than I was. I found out about 3 years later when looking for a flight suit after seeing a little kids one for sale and they recommended I call space camp and see about getting one. They gave me the number and the rest is history.

We didn't have a lot of money when I was in my teens when SC was going strong. I was 16 when the movie came out.
I also was raised by some pretty overprotective parents, too. The idea of me going to SC by myself? That was such an alien concept I never bothered to even ask.
And yes, a few years ago I confirmed they never would have said okay even if I had asked.

I was married with 2 kids by the time the movie came out. I had no idea about adult Space Camp until I received a trip as an MBA graduation present.

Last night, Adam wore a SpaceCamp sweatshirt throughout the episode.

Did it have the old logo with "US" at the front?
