new movie

What Space Camp forum would be complete without a place to talk about one of the best/worst movies of all time, SpaceCamp, as well as all Space Camp references in pop culture.

Premiere party for Space Warriors will be Thursday, April 25 @ Davidson Center.

$10 to see the movie, $75 for the movie and the private reception.

This begs the question, will the reception be worth the $75 price (plus hotel, and taking a day off from work to come down)? Which of the actors will be in attendance? Can Vincent or somebody find out more details for us?

I guess it's all relative to 'worth,' on an individual basis. That said, this appears to be your only chance to see it on a big screen and in public. My understanding is it's going direct to video. I've heard from two people who have seen the film already. Hopefully they saw an early cut, because neither were impressed.
I just saw this here, box art and all, for the DVD:

I live a very long way from Huntsville (over 2500 miles), so going to this premiere is not an option for me at all. I was looking forward to going to see this in a theater (wearing my SC shirt, of course) but I guess I'll never get the chance. Even if the movie turns out to be terrible, I'm going to have to have a copy, as I went to SC right after they wrapped on the filming at Huntsville.

Well I am going to try to be there that day, the moon buggy races kicks off that day. $75.00 is to high for me. I take $10.00 myself.

No word yet from the studios as to who will be in attendance (A-listers, that is...this extra will be there!).

Apparently, the movie is being released into some theaters after all, but it's a very limited release (only one theater is showing it within 1000 miles of my home, and that theater is almost 200 miles away, in a small town over a big mountain chain), so there's no way I'll be seeing it on a big screen.
Here's the trailer:

Apparently SPACE WARRIORS will also be on the Hallmark channel May 31.

So, same sort of treatment as the Smile movie.

Did any of you read the synopsis of the film? It says more than once that the plot is a competition to get 'a seat on the space shuttle'. Funny, I haven't seen that anywhere else and the trailer doesn't seem to support it either. That concept is even loonier than the 1986 film (at least that was just a test and an accident caused them to launch, not a specific plan to have a child fly on a mission).

Vincent, thank you for posting the pre- and post-film events! They were great to watch. They will make more sense once I've seen the film itself. :)

I had to looking for what you meant by this, it's on the HAB forum home page.
Vincent, what'd you think of the finished film? I know you saw an early cut before this.
Has anyone here seen the movie yet? I won't get the chance until it's on DVD or TV... :( Still bummed that I won't get the chance to see it in a theater...

I will say that the film really came together from the rough cut I saw! Watching the rough cut, it didn't feel like a real, complete movie. Now it does!

It's still going to be best enjoyed by the 7-12 year-old demographic, no doubt, and I don't know that it's going to hold up as well as SpaceCamp does when it hits its quarter-century birthday. But hey, it's a Space Camp movie!

Saw the ads for it an hour ago on Hallmark Channel for next Friday. It was funny because I normally can't stand the sappy sweet stuff they show there, and I was 'shh-ing' my wife when that ad came on.

Canadians seem to be out of luck with this one - my parents couldn't find it on the TV listings and Walmart Canada doesn't have it and it isn't on their stocking list for the next two months. (I'm guessing it doesn't have French subtitles.) I'll keep my eyes open. Otherwise, we'll have to wait until our trip to America in October.

PM me if you want, I could nab a copy for you from the local WalMart if you'd like.
