The first time I was in Huntsville was for AA. My team stunk and so did the counselor. I got two terrible mission positions and was always left out. Most of the counselors are great at including everyone, though.

i think its kinda unanimous that people's first trip wasn't their most favourite. then after going back a couple times, it gets waaaaaaay better. you've seriously just gotta learn the ropes and its all good.

I think first-time trainees should go in the off-season. With fewer teams, smaller teams, and more room to breathe, it adds a little edge to the programme that they cannot add in the summer. We got more time at AC, we got more time on the sims, and the trainees, for the most part, all wanted to be there. I think the counsellors enjoy the slow season more too - less chaos, so they have more fun too.

But then again... my thoughts only make up one opinion... but that is what I would recomend...

In addition to good counselors (we had Phil and he was cool), there are also some great USSRC employees/volunteers. A couple of my teammates and I got in early on Friday and were looking around the museum, and we were checking out the LM. I was looking close at one of the moon suits, trying to see whose it was. A lady in one of the orange flight suits comes up and starts asking me questions, and looked shocked when I knew what she was asking. She asked how I knew, since most people wouldn't. I told her I was a real space nut, and that we were there the whole weekend for adult SA. She was so thrilled at this! She then got all excited and was taking us around the museum personally, talking to us about the exhibits and pointing out facts we probably would have have missed. I thought that was such a nice way to start my camp experience! I think her name tag said "Wabbit" on it, so I'm assuming that's her nickname. I've thought about trying to contact the museum to tell them how cool she is. Anybody out there meet her or know her? Tell her Carrie the space nut says hi... -C

Awesome counsellors = all of the ones I had for adult camp:
Lenny, Phil, Lurch, Melissa, Skippy, Jedi, Arlisa, Beast, and a few others that came and went throughout the week...

Awesome staff = Michael Flachbart, Mike Green, the lady at the Space Store whose daughter went to Athens, and the ladies who let us switch rooms in Habibtat I.

Awesome volunteers = UAT!
